In what’s now considered the best trade deadline in MLB history, Wolfpacker Trea Turner was involved in the biggest trade of all. The deal sent Trea Turner & Max Scherzer to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two of the Dodgers top prospects & two mid-tier prospects.
Turner has primarily been a shortstop in his MLB career, the same position he played at NC State. Most probably don’t remember that he started his NC State career at 3rd base & he broke into the majors as the Washington Nationals starting center fielder in 2016. That’s something to keep in mind since the Dodgers already have an Uber-talented shortstop in Corey Seager, the 2020 World Series MVP. Turner will likely play 2nd base or outfield when Seager returns from the Injured List.
During his five-year career, Turner has: won a World Series (2019), been an All-Star (2021), hit for the cycle three times, & the 2018 National League stolen bases champion. Pretty solid career for a guy who only had two scholarship offers coming out of high school, Florida Atlantic University & NC State.
While at NC State, Turner’s 57 steals his freshman season were more than 158 other Division 1 teams, it was also an NC State record. In a game that year, he tied the ACC record with 5 steals in a single game. Trea Turner was also the starting shortstop for NC State’s 2013 College World Series team.
