Virginia Tech CB Caleb Farley has decided to opt out of this season, and prepare for the NFL Draft. Losing a player like Caleb Farley, the best player for the Hokies, will be extremely hard on Virginia Tech in 2020. Farley is a future 1st Round Pick, and he will add to a strong tradition of Hokie DBs being drafted.
Fortunately for VT they have another Top 5 ACC Cornerback in Jermaine Waller. However, after that it’s a lot of unknowns. Let’s take a look at some possible replacements for Farley.
Armani Chatman 5’11” 195-lb – Sophomore
Chatman was a former 3-star recruit from the 757. Last season, he got some valuable playing time as a Freshman. He recorded 22 Tackles, had 2 Pass Breakups, and had 1 INT that was called back because of a penalty. He’s definitely raw and inexperienced, but has potential to develop into a steady replacement.
Brion Murray 6’0″ 180-lb – Junior
Murray played in 5 games last season as a Sophomore. He recorded 11 Tackles, 1 INT, and 1 Pass Breakup. He had an extra burst of quickness watching him that I really liked.
Nadir Thompson 5’10” 190-lb – Sophomore
Thompson has suffered through injuries and hasn’t had an opportunity to contribute in his career just yet. Coming out of high school, he was a 3-star recruit and had good quickness and speed. If healthy, Nadir is a player who could make an impact in 2020.
Dorian Strong 6’0″ 160-lb – Freshman
Strong was only rated as the 133rd best CB in the 2020 class. But the Hokies have done an excellent job developing DBs. Strong could make an impact if he adds strength.
It’s obvious that Farley leaves Virginia Tech with a lot of unknowns except for Waller. It’s possible the Hokies can land a Graduate Transfer who could make an impact as well.
