CFBRanking’s College Football Week 4 Top 26

(Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports)

Week 4 CFBRanking’s Top 26

1. Clemson (Last week: 1)

Last Week: W over Syracuse 41-6

Clemson didn’t have any trouble in this visit to the Carrier Dome. The Tigers easily hold onto the #1 spot, but Trevor Lawrence is still having a slow start. Clemson gets Charlotte at home this week.

2. Alabama (2)

Last Week: W over South Carolina 47-23

A little closer than some expected, but Alabama continues to roll vs inferior opponents. The road doesn’t get any tougher with Southern Miss at home this week.

3. Oklahoma (3)

Last Week: W over UCLA 48-14

The Sooners filled the Rose Bowl with crimson and blew out the Bruins, who are now 0-3. Oklahoma and Jalen Hurts have looked very strong as they head into a bye week this week.

4. LSU (4)

Last Week: W over Northwestern State 65-14

LSU took care of business last weekend at home. They travel to Vanderbilt next, looking to improve to 4-0.

5. Georgia (5)

Last Week: W over Arkansas State 55-0

The Bulldogs easily beat the Red Wolves, but the pink out for Arkansas St HC Blake Anderson and his deceased wife Wendy was a very cool thing. Georgia gets Notre Dame at home in their first big test of the season.

6. Ohio St (6)

Last Week: W over Indiana 51-10

Another year and another win for Ohio St over Indiana. Justin Fields continues to impress, passing the ball for the Buckeyes. Ohio St should continue to roll next week when Miami (OH) comes into town.

7. Utah (7)

Last Week: W over Idaho State 31-0

Business: taken care of. Utah did what they needed to do vs the Bengals and that was win handily. Up next for the Utes is a trip to USC for a tricky Pac 12 opener

8. Michigan (8)

Last Week: BYE

After sitting at home and trying to fix some issues, the Wolverines travel to Madison to play Wisconsin. This is arguably the second biggest game of the week and could potentially have some playoff implications. Can Michigan score vs Wisconsin (0 pts allowed)?

9. Notre Dame (10)

Last Week: W over New Mexico 66-14

Notre Dame smashed the Lobos last week, but now the focus turns to a road game in Athens. If the Irish pull off the upset, no one will remember last year’s loss in the playoff and they will jump right up into the Top 5.

10. Penn State (11)

Last Week: W over Pittsburgh 17-10

It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win over a rival. Penn St has some issues to figure out, and they get a week off, before a big road game at Maryland.

11. Florida (9)

Last Week: W over Kentucky 29-21

The Gators won, but the issue is they lost their starting QB Feleipe Franks for the year. The season lies in the hands of back up Kyle Trask now. Florida faces Tennessee and Towson at home, as good tune ups before the schedule ramps up.

12. TCU (12)

Last Week: W over Purdue 34-13

TCU impressed in what was supposed to be a pretty closely contested game. Up next is 3-0 SMU in a rivalry game that the Horned Frogs have dominated.

13. Texas (13)

Last Week: W over Rice 48-13

Texas took care of business off of a the LSU loss, but up next is Oklahoma St in Austin. The Longhorns have 0 room for error if they still want to make the College Football Playoffs.

14. Washington State (15)

Last Week: W over Houston 31-24

The Cougs beat a talented team basically on the road in Houston. Again, Wazzu looks to be a Top 15 and maybe Top 10 team. However, this time they have Anthony Gordon at the helm as QB. Up next is UCLA at home, as the Bruins still search for their first win.

15. Auburn (16)

Last Week: W over Kent St 55-16

Auburn continues to roll, but next week will be tough as they travel to College Station to face the Aggies. The Tigers are going to start learning whether they are for real or not.

16. Wisconsin (17)

Last Week: BYE

Wisconsin got a bye week to watch film for the Michigan game. The Badgers defense has literally been lights out and figure to give up some points vs the Wolverines. But a win could push them well into the Top 15.

17. Iowa (14)

Last Week: W over Iowa State 18-17

This game had everything. College Gameday. Two rain delays. Students storming the field in the rain. Double Pass TD. A muffed punt. But in the end, Iowa somehow pulled out a 5th straight win, even when they didn’t play very well. Iowa gets a break to unravel all of that and heal some injuries.

18. UCF (22)

Last Week: W over Stanford 45-27

UCF impressed with a win over Stanford and now needs the Cardinals to pick up some wins. Up next is a trip to Pittsburgh. If UCF keeps winning, they will move up as the undefeated teams fall.

19. Texas A&M (18)

Last Week: W over Lamar 62-3

The Aggies blew out an FCS team, as they should. Up next are the Auburn Tigers coming to town. This is important for both teams in terms of SEC West standings and staying in line for a NY6 bowl game.

20. Oregon (19)

Last Week: W over Montana 35-3

The Ducks did what they were supposed to do vs the Grizzlies. Up next is a road trip to Stanford in a game that will play a big role in the Pac 12 North race.

21. Washington (20)

Last Week: W over Hawaii 52-20

Coming off the upset loss to California, Washington hammered a pretty good Hawaii team. They look to stay on track this week, but it wont be easy as they travel to Provo to face upset minded BYU.

22. Boise State (21)

Last Week: W over Portland State 45-10

Another win closer to the 12-0 record that I predicted before the season. The Broncos rolled to victory last week, but it will be tougher this week as they welcome an Air Force team that just knocked off Colorado last week.

23. Virginia (24)

Last Week: W over Florida State 31-24

Virginia held on just barely at home, but it was a tough win and they stay unbeaten. Up next is Old Dominion at home, but they must stay focused and not look ahead to Notre Dame the week after.

24. Memphis (25)

Last Week: W over South Alabama 42-6

The Tigers made easy work of South Alabama and get the week off this week. Memphis gets Navy at home the week after.

25. California (NR)

Last Week: W over North Texas 23-17

The Golden Bears defense continues to hold good offenses to minimal points. They sneak into my Top 26 this week, but travel to Ole Miss this weekend. Another win here would continue the confidence they have already built.

26. Wake Forest (NR)

Last Week: W over North Carolina 24-18

Look at the Demon Deacons. They held on late vs the Tar Heels and move to 3-0 on the season. The WRs are something to be scared of and they will look to continue vs FCS Elon this week.
