44 days until college football returns

There are 44 days until college football returns. Today we remember #44 for Syracuse: the great Jim Brown.

In the early 1950s, Jim Brown was a star for Syracuse University. During his sophomore campaign, he was second on the team in rushing. He followed that up by rushing for 5.2 yards per carry during his junior year. In his senior year in 1956, Brown became a unanimous All-American. He averaged a school record 6.2 yards per carry. He also racked up 986 yards rushing, the 3rd most in the country. The only caveat is he did that in only 8 games. Brown also kicked extra points for his team. He was just an all-around stellar athlete.

His #44 is retired by Syracuse. He also has an 800 square foot tapestry hanging in the Carrier Dome with images of him playing both football and lacrosse (he was a star lacrosse player as well) with the words “Greatest Player Ever.” Brown is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
