There are only 39 days until the 2019 college football season kicks off. In celebration we remember the incredibly powerful Syracuse fullback, #39 Larry Csonka. Csonka began his career with the Orange at the MLB position. However, he was moved to fullback during the 1965 – 1967 seasons. As a fullback he earned All-American honors and broke many rushing records. Records held by the likes of Ernie Davis, Jim Nance, Floyd Little, and Jim Brown.
Although the fullback position seems to be a dying breed in today’s game, Csonka punished opposing defenses. Don’t you dare try to arm tackle this man. During his career he rushed for a total of 2,934 yards and 19 touchdowns. He had 14 different games where he ran for over 100 yards. The Orange gave the ball to Csonka often has he had 594 total carries in his career. It is no surprise that in 1989 he was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
