Week 10 CFBRanking Top 26

1. LSU

Last Week: W over Auburn 23-20

LSU hung on late to score a ranked win vs Auburn. They barely hold on to the #1 spot going into a bye week. The Tigers are a clear Top 2 team, but it will be put to the test when they travel to Tuscaloosa in two weeks to face Alabama.

2. Ohio State

Last Week: W over Wisconsin 38-7

The Buckeyes looked like the #1 team on Saturday vs the Badgers, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger on moving them past LSU. Ohio State does have 3 players on my POY Watch list, however. Up next, the Buckeyes have a bye week, before a game vs Maryland.

3. Alabama

Last Week: W over Arkansas 48-7

No Tua, no problem. The Crimson Tide ran away with it vs Arkansas and will hope Tua gets healthy during the bye week. Up next, is a home game vs #1 LSU after the bye.

4. Clemson

Last Week: W over Boston College 59-7

Clemson is beginning to look like the team we expected to see all year. They have blown out their last 3 opponents, but still don’t have a good win. Up next, is FCS Wofford for the Tigers.

5. Penn State

Last Week: W over Michigan State 28-7

The Nittany Lions looked solid again on Saturday, but it was expected in the rain vs a Mich St team that can’t score. Up next is a bye week for Penn St, before a monumental trip to Minnesota.

6. Florida

Last Week: Bye

Florida got a bye week to rest up before their huge matchup vs #9 Georgia. This game will eliminate a team from the CFP picture and possibly from the SEC East race.

7. Oregon

Last Week: W over Washington State 37-35

The Ducks barely got a game winning FG to beat the Cougars on Saturday, and it cost them a shot at the #6 spot. The fact is though they are still a 1-loss team and are very much in the CFP discussion. Up next, Oregon travels to USC in a possible trap game situation.

8. Utah

Last Week: W over California 35-0

The Utes dominated California the entire game and I almost moved them ahead of Oregon to 7. Utah is as well still in the CFP discussion, but a trip to Washington could change that this week. A win and the last 3 look very manageable to get to 11-1.

9. Georgia

Last Week: Bye

The Bulldogs got a bye week to flush the last 2 games and prepare for Florida in a CFP and SEC East elimination game.

10. Oklahoma

Last Week: L vs Kansas State 48-41

UPSET! The Sooners defense did not look like they have so far this season and they paid for it with a loss to the Wildcats. Luckily, Oklahoma gets a bye week to get their minds right for a home game vs Iowa State.

11. Baylor

Last Week: Bye

Baylor got a bye week to watch Oklahoma, Texas and Iowa State all stumble in the Big 12. Up next is a Thursday game vs West Virginia for a shot at 8-0.

12. Minnesota

Last Week: W over Maryland 52-10

The Golden Gophers continue to win big, but they haven’t hit the big games just yet. The offense looks good and then defense is sneaky talented. Up next is a bye week, before the biggest home game in recent history vs Penn State.

13. Michigan

Last Week: W over Notre Dame 45-14

The Wolverines look 100x better at this point than they did vs Wisconsin earlier in the year. They absolutely crushed the Irish in Ann Arbor. Michigan will look to ride the momentum into this week with a trip to Maryland.

14. Auburn

Last Week: L vs LSU 23-20

The Auburn offense just couldn’t get it together against top ranked LSU and that cost them CFP chances and any shot at the SEC West. Up next is a home game for Ole Miss. The Tigers still have a shot at a NY6 bowl.

15. Cincinnati

Last Week: Bye

The Bearcats got a bye week to prepare for their next game and it’s a road game at East Carolina. Cincinnati holds a slim lead over SMU for the G5 NY6 bid, so every game is of the utmost importance.

16. SMU

Last Week: W over Houston 34-31

SMU keeps on winning, but they have gotten some scares from Houston and Tulsa. The next game will require a full effort as they travel to Memphis for a game with NY6 implications and AAC West implications.

17. Appalachian State

Last Week: W over South Alabama 30-3

The Mountaineers are on a roll right now and no one in the Sun Belt can stop them. Up next is home game on Halloween vs rival Georgia Southern. They must focus and not look ahead to the big game vs South Carolina the week after.

18. Iowa

Last Week: W over Northwestern 20-0

The Hawkeye defense again allowed next to nothing, but the Wildcat offense really isn’t that good. Nonetheless, it’s a shutout and good momentum leading into an off week, before a huge Big Ten West clash with Wisconsin in Madison.

19. Notre Dame

Last Week: L vs Michigan 45-14

That was exactly what the Irish could not afford to do. That blowout loss cost them any shot at the CFP and possibly chances for a NY6 bowl. They get Virginia Tech at home next week, and the Hokies are sneakily up to 5-2.

20. Kansas State

Last Week: W over Oklahoma 48-41

Kansas State scored the biggest upset of the weekend knocking off the #3 Sooners at home in the Little Apple. Up next is a trip to the competitive Kansas Jayhawks. A win would get the Wildcats to 6-2 and bowl eligible.

21. Memphis

Last Week: W over Tulsa 42-41

A missed FG saved the Tigers from a crushing AAC loss, but they survived. They must find a way to play way better this week as undefeated SMU comes to town. This game will have a huge effect on the AAC West.

22. Wisconsin

Last Week: L vs Ohio State 38-7

The Badger defense is good, but the Buckeyes offense was just better. Wisconsin has lost 2 straight, but now gets a bye week, before a big game vs Iowa. The Badgers must stay focused and not cost themselves a chance at a Big Ten Title appearance.

23. Boise State

Last Week: Bye

The Broncos got a bye week to reflect on their loss to BYU and get prepared for a trip to San Jose State. The Spartans have 4 wins including wins over Arkansas and Army, so Boise must not overlook them.

24. UCF

Last Week: W over Temple 63-21

Domination. The Knights smashed Temple with big plays all night and vaulted themselves into the Top 26 again. Up next is a home game vs Houston and it is a must win to keep their slim AAC East hopes and NY6 hopes alive.

25. Wake Forest

Last Week: Bye

The Demon Deacons got a bye week to prepare for a home game against NC State and a shot at 7 wins. Wake Forest is the current front runner for the Orange Bowl, but another slip up could be costly.

26. San Diego State

Last Week: W over UNLV 20-17

The Aztecs hung on late vs UNLV, and quietly have one of them top defenses in the nation. They haven’t allowed over 23 points yet this season. Up next is a bye week, before a home game vs Nevada to possibly move to 8-1.
