It’s time for Week 8, and a full slate of college football! That can only mean one thing – it’s time for predictions. Lots of good football and interesting match-ups. Be sure to check out the ATS picks at the end.
Top 25
(25) Tulane 28 Memphis 24
Tulane has been playing extraordinary defense, and they’ll cause problems for Memphis QB Seth Henigan. Give me the Green Wave in a close one.
SMU 31 (21) Cincinnati 28
The Bearcats have some key players dinged up for this game, and my formula loves SMU to not only cover this spread but win the game.
(20) Texas 35 (11) Oklahoma State 27
This game will be windy, 20 MPH or more, so that could play a big role on the outcome. Quinn Ewers arm is so strong he should still be able to throw darts through the wind, and Bijan Robinson will be able to pick up yards on this Cowboys’ defense. I’m not sure Spencer Sanders is 100% healthy yet, and he will need a big game if they want to win.
(16) Penn State 21 Minnesota 19
Penn State and Minnesota are both coming off conference losses last week. Penn State got dragged by Michigan and Minnesota lost to Illinois. If the Gophers want to win this game, they’ll need RB Mohamed Ibrahim to dominate. Expect a competitive, sloppy, and close game until the end.
(13) Wake Forest 38 Boston College 28
Wake Forest is the better team here and the Eagles are 21-point underdogs. However, this spread is too much and BC will make it a competitive game. In the end, Sam Hartman will ultimately lead the Demon Deacons to a win.
(10) Oregon 38 (9) UCLA 31
UCLA +6.5 is the “sexy” pick this week, but a lot of hearts and pockets could be hurting after this one. Bo Nix has been spectacular, outside of the Georgia game, and has been a problem rushing the ball. If the Bruins are going to win and stay undefeated, they’ll need a big game from QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The Ducks are vulnerable through the air and DTR needs to exploit that weakness.
(8) TCU 31 (17) Kansas State 27
Kansas State has been impressive this season, but TCU has been better. Both teams have QBs capable of massive games. K-State’s Adrian Martinez can really hurt you on the ground, while the Horned Frogs’ Max Duggan can hurt you on the ground and through the air. The Horned Frogs are the better team and they remain undefeated.
LSU 34 (7) Ole Miss 31
My formula absolutely loves LSU -1.5. It’s a scary pick, but something that could definitely happen. Ole Miss let Auburn make a comeback last week, and Auburn has been extremely bad. LSU is a team capable of giving the Rebels problems, especially if QB Jayden Daniels is playing to his capabilities.
(6) Alabama 42 (24) Mississippi State 17
Earlier this season, I thought Mississippi State could give the Crimson Tide a scare in this game. But after last week, I expect Alabama to roll the Bulldogs. I’m not sure Mississippi State will be able to slow down QB Bryce Young, and the Alabama defense has been known to give Mike Leach problems.
(5) Clemson 27 (14) Syracuse 17
Syracuse has been incredible this season, and I’m a huge fan of the Orange. This matchup will be extremely tough, and Clemson has the all around team to make it tough for the Cuse on offense and defense. QB Garrett Shrader and RB Sean Tucker have been excellent all season, but they’ll need to make some unbelievable plays if Syracuse wants to win this game.
(3) Tennessee 56 UT Martin 10
The Vols won’t have a letdown spot here. UT Martin is actually a good competitive FCS teams, but they’re extremely overmatched in this game.
(2) Ohio State 35 Iowa 7
Iowa has a really good defense and punter. However, they have the worst offense in the FBS. The Buckeyes have one of the best offenses in college football, and they’re capable of making a really good defense look overmatched. Expect the Hawkeyes defense to make some big stops, but the offense will most likely struggle and the defense could get worn down fast.
