It’s time for Week 4 in college football. And it’s time for predictions. Lots of good football and interesting match-ups. Be sure to check out the ATS picks at the end.
Top 25
Oklahoma State 24 (25) KSU 14
Unranked favorites have defeated the ranked underdog around 70% of the time the last 25 games or so after WVU beat VT last week. Kansas State lost their starting QB, and I don’t fully trust backup Will Howard.
(24) UCLA 35 Stanford 28
UCLA lost last week to a good Fresno State team. That doesn’t change my opinion on UCLA. The Bruins are better than the Cardinals.
(23) Auburn 45 Georgia State 14
Auburn has way too much talent for this Georgia State team to keep up.
(22) Fresno State 49 UNLV 14
Fresno State has a Heisman candidate at QB in Jake Haener, a stud RB, and good recievers. UNLV has no chance at stopping this offense.
(21) UNC 38 Georgia Tech 20
The UNC offense was on point last week vs UVA. It seems they’ve finally found their groove and that’s bad news for GT. The Yellow Jackets played an excellent game vs Clemson last week, but ultimately came up short. Sam Howell will play way better than DJ Uiagalelei did last week, and I expect the Tar Heels to win by 18.
(20) Michigan State 27 Nebraska 24
Michigan State went to Miami and kicked the Canes’ asses last week. Sparty has a Heisman contender at RB in Kenneth Walker III and they actually have a passing attack this season. Nebraska played Oklahoma last week and kept it close, but came up short. The Cornhuskers are playing well right now and could keep this game closer than the experts think.
(19) Michigan 34 Rutgers 13
Rutgers has been a great story. They’re 3-0 and head coach Greg Schiano has the program on the come up. With all that said, Michigan is the better team right now. RB Blake Corum and the rushing attack has looked impressive, and Michigan wins by three TDs.
(17) Coastal Carolina 49 UMass 17
The Chanticleers have too much firepower for the Minutemen. D9on’t expect this one to be close.
(15) BYU 35 USF 14
I underestimated BYU. They’ve been a lot better than I expected. Jaren Hall has been solid at QB and the defense has been playing well. USF can’t keep up in this one. Give me BYU by three TDs.
(14) Iowa State 24 Baylor 21
Iowa State has been disappointing so far this season. They barely beat UNI, then they had a bad showing vs Iowa. Expect Baylor to keep this one close and possibly win outright.
(18) Wisconsin 24 (12) Notre Dame 17
QB Jack Coan gets to face his former team. I’ve been waiting on this one. Wisconsin has a lot to prove after losing to Penn State, and Notre Dame hasn’t looked impressive in their three wins. Notre Dame is a bit overrated. The Badgers win by a TD.
(11) Florida 41 Tennessee 21
The Gators were so close to knocking off #1 Alabama last week. They played great and were a missed XP / two point conversion away from going to OT. Tennessee looked good vs inferior opponents, then lost to Pitt, who lost to WMU. The Vols don’t have a realistic opportunity to win this one, and it could get ugly.
(10) Ohio State 56 Akron 10
The Buckeyes need to get some things figured out in this game. But even while doing that it shouldn’t be close.
(9) Clemson 24 NC State 14
The Tigers have issues on the O-Line and DJ Uiagalelei hasn’t looked as good as we thought he would. If NC State had looked impressive vs Mississippi State, I probably would’ve thought about taking them here. But I just can’t trust the Wolfpack. Give me Clemson in a low scoring game.
(7) Texas A&M 20 (16) Arkansas 17
This was a tough game to predict. It’s a toss up and I could see either team winning. I’ll go with the Aggies because before the season started I had them in this game.
(6) Penn State 45 Villanova 10
Villanova is a Top 25 FCS team and they just beat ranked Richmond. They’re an excellent team, but that wont matter going up against Penn State. PSU has too much for Villanova and I expect them to win big.
(5) Iowa 27 Colorado State 10
Iowa has an outstanding defense. It should be difficult for Colorado State to move the ball. Expect Hawkeye RB Tyler Goodson to have a big game and for it to be lower scoring.
(4) Oklahoma 38 West Virginia 17
West Virginia just got a big win vs Virginia Tech, and the public is all over WVU + 16.5. Oklahoma hasn’t looked like the team we all thought they would be. The Sooners have the talent to be a dominant team. They just have to put it all together. I’ll take the Sooners to win and cover this spread.
(3) Oregon 42 Arizona 17
Arizona just lost to FCS Northern Arizona, and Oregon has been on a roll. Most people will take the Ducks -28.5, but I like Arizona to cover that spread.
(2) Georgia 45 Vanderbilt 3
There’s no way I can see this game being close. Georgia has an elite defense and the Commodores will struggle to move the ball. Dawg QB JT Daniels and the offense should be able to score at will.
(1) Alabama 56 Southern Miss 7
The Crimson Tide will win this game big. The only question is can they cover the big spread (-45)?
