It’s time for the 2019 Pypeline True Freshmen Wide Receivers of the Year. These are players that stepped on campus and made an immediate impact with their team. With these guys hauling in passes, the future is bright for each of these teams.
Wide Receivers
Dante Wright – Colorado State
Dante Wright was one of the best True Freshman in college football this season that you might not know about. He had 57 catches for 805 yards and 4 TDs. He also added 214 rushing yards, 2 TDs, and 135 punt return yards.
David Bell – Purdue
Bell was the best True Freshman WR in 2019. When Rondale Moore went down with an injury, he stepped up. Bell had 86 receptions for 1,035 yards and 7 touchdowns. Next season will be a big year for the Boilermakers’ offense.
C.J. Johnson – ECU
Johnson had a huge season for the Pirates, hauling in 54 passes for 908 yards and 4 touchdowns. He has the speed/size to be a dominant receiver in CFB the next few years.
Tayvion Robinson – Virginia Tech
Robinson did it all for the Hokies. He had 31 receptions for 404 yards and a TD, rushed for 132 yards and emerged as the leading punt returner by season’s end. Bright future ahead for Robinson at Virginia Tech.
George Pickens – Georgia
Pickens was spectacular this season for the Bulldogs. He caught 49 passes for 727 yards and 8 TDs. Pickens has extraordinary size at 6’5″ and unreal athleticism which makes him a match-up nightmare.
Garrett Wilson – Ohio State
Wilson emerged as a big time target for Justin Fields this season. He hauled in 30 passes for 432 yards and 5 touchdowns. With Fields back in 2020, you should expect a big season out of Wilson.
Jared Wayne – Pittsburgh
Wayne only played in 5 games this season, but showed flashes of what’s in store for his future. He caught 18 passes for 261 yards and 1 TD. He’s got good size at 6’3″ and should become a viable red zone threat.
Cameron Ross – UConn
Ross was one of the best True Freshman WRs in CFB this season. He caught 60 passes for 723 yards and 4 touchdowns. Ross is a player the Huskies can build around.
Treylon Burks – Arkansas
Burks was a bright spot for the Razorbacks this season. He caught 29 passes for 475 yards and rushed for 35 yards. Remember the name!
Trey Knox – Arkansas
Knox, a former 4⭐ recruit, came into Fayetteville and made an immediate impact on the field. He hauled in 28 passes for 385 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Skyy Moore – Western Michigan
Moore had an outstanding Freshman campaign. He caught 51 passes for 802 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed for a TD. Remember the name!
Drake London – USC
Slovis to London was one of the best Freshman to Freshman combos in CFB. London hauled in 39 passes for 567 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Jalon Calhoun – Duke
Calhoun had 46 receptions for 420 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. As a recruit, he was overlooked by many schools. However, it looks like David Cutcliffe found a good one in Calhoun.
Ahmarean Brown – GT
Brown is a speedy receiver with good acceleration in open space. This season he stepped up as one of the best Freshman WRs in CFB with 21 catches for 396 yards and 7 touchdowns.
