It seems that the “Saquon Barkley affect” is setting in, as the Nittany Lions get a BIG pickup from 4-star RB Devyn Ford. Ford is listed as the #3 player at his position and a Top 100 recruit in the 2019 recruiting class. Although he committed to Penn State, Ford had offers from all over the nation. Almost everyone believed that Ford might stay at home and be a Virginia Tech Hokie, however the recruiting powers of Penn State took over. The Nittany Lions ended last season with the #5 ranked class and continue to build an already powerful program.

James Franklin has to be absolutely gushing over the commitment from this talented running back. Ford seems to be able to do it all, and do it all really well, making him a true all-purpose running back. He is wise beyond his years in terms of football instincts, and it shows that he is a student of the game. Ford is also a dangerous receiver out of the backfield, with speed and quickness to take it to the house every single time. All of these things might just make him the best running back in the nation, regardless of class.
Mike’s Take
I have to say that I am extremely excited about this commitment for Penn State. The Nittany Lions will continue to have one of the best running games in the nation, even without Saquon Barkley in the fold. In fact, their running game might end up being better than ever. It is going to be fun watching Devyn Ford run all over B1G defenses along side their stable of running backs. Don’t forget that PSU also received a commitment from 5-star RB Ricky Slade in the 2018 class. With these two players in the backfield, I expect for PSU to have some historic seasons in the near future.
