Head Coach PJ Fleck and Minnesota received some great news, as top DB Tyler Nubin joined their 2019 class. Nubin is a 4-star prospect, the #1 defensive back in the state of Illinois as well as a Top 5 prospect overall in the state. Minnesota fan’s must be rejoicing. It has been far too often that they have been on the short end of the stick in these kinds of recruitments. With PJ Fleck at the helm, this might start to change. Fleck is considered and up and coming coach, so kids will want to play for him.

Nubin had offers from Tennessee, Michigan, MSU, and among other B1G schools. However, it was his visit to Minnesota that sealed the deal. As a matter of fact, Nubin’s announcement comes just a few days after his visit. PJ Fleck must have rolled out the red carpet to secure a commitment from such a talent. We expect to see more of these over the next few years.
Mike’s Take
Nubin already has the size and strength to come in and compete immediately. Also, his physique is impressive for a kid his age, combined with his length makes for a prototypical DB. In fact, with his size, he could play as a safety in some situations. In addition to his size Nubin possesses adequate speed as well. His speed isn’t blazing, but he can even keep up with smaller, quicker receivers if need be.
At this point in his career, Nubin is more of a press man than a coverage corner. The talented corner may not be a starter immediately, but he will most likely crack the second unit, especially in coverages that require man to man. We can’t wait to see this kid as a Golden Gopher. This is the first of many recruits that Minnesota fans will welcome with open arms with Fleck as their leader, as he will make a marked impact on recruiting.
