4-Star Defensive Lineman Hakeem Beamon Decommits from UNC

Head Coach Larry Fedora and the North Carolina Tar Heels received some bad news this week as 4-star defensive lineman Hakeem Beamon announced his decommitment. The talented Virginia product was just one of three commitments in the 2019 class for UNC. He was also the only 4-star in the class thus far. This is a big loss for UNC, but it seems that this was a long time coming. Beamon even admitted that decommitting has been on his mind for a while now. He was going to wait until spring break, but there is no time like the present.

What does the future hold?

Hakeem may have just decommitted from UNC today, but he did not waste any time in setting a new leader group. He has claimed that Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, and South Carolina all have stepped in as his favorites now that his recruitment has been reopened. This leader group is not a “set in stone” type of situation, and other teams will certainly enter the picture, as summer camp season approaches. Although they are not listed in his top schools, Virginia Tech will likely be a team to watch until the very end. Penn State could also make a push for his services if they decide to get involved.

Beamon will most likely take his time when choosing his college destination the second time around. However, he is expected to make his announcement before his senior season. He has stated that he wants to get his commitment over before the season starts, that way he can focus on his final year at Lloyd C. Bird High School.

Final Thoughts

Wherever Hakeem chooses as his college destination, they will be getting a great player. He is a top notch defensive lineman and is very versatile. Beamon can play a variety of positions from OLB to DT. Hakeem’s position will depend on the weight training program he is put on. At this time it is too early to tell where he will end up. Beamon seems to be pretty enamored with Alabama for the time being. When Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide sink their teeth into a recruitment, it usually ends up in their favor. Also, as we stated before, watch out for Va Tech. The Hokies do a great job at keeping kids in their own backyard. Especially when the recruit is a defensive lineman.
