For the first time since 2015, Fresno State has snagged a 4-star prospect in their 2018 class in Tyrone Sampson Jr. The talented lineman is the #4 Center in the nation and one of the best overall lineman in the class. The U.S. Army All-American was a hot commodity on the recruiting trail and had 10+ offers from P5 programs, including Mississippi State, Michigan State, and Louisville among others.

Sampson is just the 2nd 4-star commitment for the Bulldogs since 2010, the last being LJ Reed, a receiver out of Elk Grove, CA. The one before that was in 2009, the current quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, Derek Carr. Although it is rare for Fresno to receive commitments from recruits who are so highly ranked, it seems that they have success in cultivating talented players and sending them to the league, such as Carr, Davante Adams, and Ryan Matthews. There are many things that make the Detroit native so special, but his technique might be the most impressive. He has an extremely strong center of gravity and packs a punch when coming off of the line. Sampson was one of the best lineman at nearly every camp that he attended, showing that given the opportunities, he will shine. Standing at 6’3 and nearly 300 pounds, he will be coming on campus ready to step right on the field. We know that offensive line might not be the “sexiest” of positions, but Fresno fans should be very excited about this pickup, because this kid has the potential to be the next Bulldog to be playing on Sundays.
