Jim Boeheim and his staff have landed a commitment from 4-star center Frank Anselem. Anselem is a 6’10” center who played high school basketball at Prolific Prep. He was recently a member of the 2021 class but decided to reclassify to the class of 2020. What happen that lead up to this commitment? Let’s find out.
Kentucky bound?
Back in April, Anselem announced he was down to three schools that included Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. A lot of recruiting analysts believed that he would untimely end up committing to LSU. There was even some talk that he even gave a silent commit to the Tigers. Things changed after LSU landed a commitment from 4-star center Josh Gray. After the commitment of Gray, Anselem decided to reopen his recruitment and schools like Kentucky, Arkansas, and Seton Hall came calling. After reopening his recruitment, Anselem announced his final six schools which included Syracuse, Kentucky, Arkansas, San Diego State, Seton Hall, and Western Kentucky.
Kentucky was viewed the heavy favorite, and it seemed like Anselem was all set to commit to the Wildcats. That is until they landed a commitment from Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr. A few days after the Sarr commitment, Frank Anselem decided to cut the Wildcats. After he cut Kentucky, his recruitment went very quiet. That was until he announced his final four schools that included Syracuse, San Diego State, New Mexico, and Georgia.
The newest Orange
Two days after he announced his final four schools, he committeed to the Syracuse Orange. Frank Anselem gives the Orange more depth in the front court. Anselem joins a class that includes 4-star Kadary Richmond and 3-star Woody Newton. The Orange also have a commitment from Illini transfer Alan Griffin. It should be a very solid season for the Orange.
