There are 23 days until college football returns. Today we remember when Eastern Michigan WR Tyler Jones tied the NCAA record for most receptions in a game with 23.
In 2008, when MAC rivals Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan faced off, little did they know that history was going to be made that day. The Eagles of EMU came in 2-9, looking to salvage a bit of their season with a victory over their rivals. The Chippewas of CMU were 8-3, looking to finish off the season strong. When the dust settled, the two teams had scored over 100 points. EMU pulled off the upset. They did so in big part to WR Tyler Jones’ historic game. The Eagles’ WR racked up 170 yards on an NCAA record-tying 23 receptions. He tied the record set by former UNLV WR Randy Gatewood. Eastern Michigan would pull out the victory 56-52 in a barnburner. It’s a game that EMU fans won’t soon forget.
