The University of Washington head coach Chris Petersen got great news for his offense, as 3-star WR Taj Davis committed to the Huskies. Davis is out of Upland High School in California. He’s a Top 500 recruit overall and Top 60 recruit for wide receivers. However, considering his skill set, he’s a bit underrated. Coach Petersen found a hidden gem.

Davis had received over 20+ offers, including ones from traditional offensive firepowers such as Oregon, Washington St, and Boise St. Teams that want to make the scoreboard spin wanted Davis. At 6’2″ 187 lbs, Taj has a great build for a wideout. He will probably put on a little more muscle once he hits the strength and conditioning program on campus. This will help him wrestle balls away from defenders when he high points the ball, something he already excels at. Under the watchful eye of an offensive innovator like head coach Chris Petersen, Davis has a chance to utilize his athleticism and get his hands on the ball many different and creative ways.
Jason’s Take
Taj has great route running ability. His spacial awareness and ability to adjust to balls thrown while in the air is top notch. That’s a skill that quarterbacks love to see in their wideouts, as they know they don’t have to always make a perfect throw and their receivers can go up, adjust, and still make a play on the ball. His speed on the outside will serve him well at the next level. When his hands are on the ball, be it by bubble screens, end arounds, deep posts, or go routes, Taj makes something special happen. That’s a huge reason why he’s an underrated recruit.
Including Washington, 10 out of 12 teams in the Pac-12 offered Davis. Anytime you can weaken your conference foes while simultaneously strengthening your own team, it’s a win-win. That’s why it was such a coup for Chris Petersen and the Huskies to get Davis. So congrats to all the Washington fans out there. Just know that when Taj steps on the field at Husky Stadium and is making plays, that place will be rocking.
