Hard work pays off. If you don’t believe it, just ask Giles Amos. Amos, a senior TE from Perry, Georgia, has endured the Alabama heat, while clashing with some of the best players in college football day in and day out as a walk on since arriving in Tuscaloosa in 2016. That is no longer the case. Giles Amos is now on scholarship for the Tide.
Giles started turning heads this spring as the coaches looked for possible replacements for Irv Smith Jr. and Hale Hentges, who both had moved on to the NFL. Many people believed the coaching staff would possibly turn to a graduate transfer to fill the voids. However, the play of Amos in spring ball led to coaches in another direction. Giles has continued his solid play into fall camp, and will likely be in the mix once the season starts.
Amos has the size at 6’4″ 245 pounds to be a solid inline blocker in the run game, but is also athletic enough to make plays in the passing game. He will most likely fill the role of Hale Hentges, while redshirt junior Miller Forristall will do his best to pick up some of the production lost with the departure of Smith.
Giles Amos will most likely not be remembered for his spectacular play when his Alabama career ends, but instead for his relentless effort to compete with the best of the best. Finally, his hard work had paid off.
