Michigan State now has the number one recruiting class in 2022. For many months now, the Spartans were seen as the heavy favorite to land Bates’ services. Schools like Kentucky and Michigan also got involved, but Michigan State was the only school to stay in consistent contact with him. Many people believed that Bates would never step foot on college campus. There was talk that the NBA would change the draft ruling in 2022, allowing for high school players to declare for the NBA draft. Bates even said if the rule is changed, he would skip college and declare for the draft. There is still plenty of time for Emoni Bates to make any type of pro decision, but right now Bates will stay committed to the Spartans.
Emoni Bates is a generational talent. He will make a MASSIVE impact for the Spartans, if he goes to college. Many top players could be interested in playing with Bates in college. Don’t be surprised if a few more top talents join him in East Lansing. However, still watch the professional route. The G league could be an option, but Bates told ESPN that he would rather play college basketball then go to the G League. Either way, this is still a MASSIVE recruiting win for Tom Izzo and the Spartans.
