Catching up with the weekend’s Top 25 college basketball action in 25 sentences.

#1 Villanova 86 Butler 75 – Coming off a loss earlier in the week, the Wildcats flirted with another L before pulling away in the 2nd half.

Virginia Tech 61 #2 Virginia 60 OT – A funny thing happened on Virginia’s way to taking over the top ranking in the country for the first time since 1982-83: they forgot to beat their rivals Va Tech.

#4 Michigan St. 68 #3 Purdue 65 – This was the Spartans 3rd Top 5 match-up this year, as Miles Bridges hit a 3 with 2.7 seconds left to seal the victory. After winning a school record 19 in a row and being undefeated in conference play, the Boilermakers have now lost two conference games in a row, and lost control of their destiny in the B1G.

#5 Xavier 72 Creighton 71 – Down 1 with 4.6 sec to play, the Musketeers drew up the brilliant play of driving the length of the court, get slightly nudged, fall to the ground as if they just stepped on a land mine, and get a bailout foul call…nice work!

#6 Cincinnati 76 SMU 51 – Ho hum, another game, another blowout for the second best defense in the nation (56.1 pts/gm allowed).

#7 Texas Tech 66 Kansas St. 47  – The Red Raiders maintain their one game lead over Kansas in the Big 12 with a YUUUUUUUUUUUGE (that’s a lot of U’s) game with the Jayhawks in a couple of weeks.

#8 Auburn 78 Georgia 61 – Don’t make the Fighting Bruce Pearls angry; you wouldn’t like it when they’re angry.

#9 Duke 80 Georgia Tech 69  – The Blue Devils got a scare as Marvin Bagley didn’t play due to a knee sprain, but it isn’t supposed to be serious.

Baylor 80 #10 Kansas 64 – From way down town…CLANK- the Jayhawks go 6-31 (19%) from three-point range, as Baylor wins for the first time in 12 games versus Kansas.

#12 Gonzaga 78 Saint Mary’s 65 – The Zags’ Rui Hachimura scored 21 points in only 28 mins on 10/14 shooting, leading Gonzaga to victory. Saint Mary’s went from undefeated in conference play to losing at home and no longer controlling their own destiny in the WCC.

#13 Arizona 81 USC 67 – After losing to UCLA at home earlier in the week in yet another Wildcat head scratcher, Arizona showed what it can do when they #BearDown, as they dominate the boards 40-22 in the win.

#14 Ohio State 82 Iowa 64 – The Buckeyes are now in first place in the B1G and control their own destiny…just like everyone predicted. o_O

Alabama 78 #15 Tennessee 50 – Remember this name: Collin Sexton, the freshman guard is a force for the Tide.

#16 Clemsoon – DNP

Iowa State 88 #17 Oklahoma 80 – Even ESPN’s Trae Young stat line (22 pts, 5 rebs, 11 assists, btw) couldn’t save the Sooners from that Hilton Magic.

#18 Rhode Island 72 Davidson 59 – The Rams have won 15 in a row and are undefeated in the A-10, with a showdown at St. Bonaventure on tap this week.

Oklahoma State 88 #19 West Virginia 85 – Press Virginia has stumbled mightily lately, losing 6 out of their last 9 games.

#20 Michigan 83 Wisconsin 72 – Remember when Wisconsin was a perennial Top 10 team…yeahhhhhhh.#21 North Carolina 96 NC State 89 – In what continues to be one of the best stories in all of college basketball, Luke Maye’s legend grows, as he scored a career high 33 pts while grabbing 17 rebounds.

#22 Wichita State 95 Connecticut 74 – This was the type of performance (52% FG, 14 3PM) that we have been expecting from the Shockers this year, and not the puzzling losses to Temple et al.

#23 Nevada 83 San Diego St 58 – Jordan Caroline (26 pts, 11 rebs) & Kendall Stephens (21 pts) had the Wolfpack howling versus San Diego St (we’ll see ourselves out).

Texas A&M 85 #24 Kentucky 74 – The Wildcats celebrated head coach John Calipari’s 59th birthday by losing 3rd in a row for the first time ever under Coach Cal…Happy Birthday??

Boston College 72 #25 Miami 70 – Miami chose to not score a point the last 6:00 of the game, while allowing the Eagles to end the game on a 9-0 run.
