There are great football players at all levels of college football. Often times people focus only on Division 1 and ignore the rest. However, players at other levels sometime only need a spotlight to showcase their talent. And that’s exactly what we’re giving them. Here are the top FCS QBs in the country.
Trey Lance – North Dakota State
Lance has a chance to be a Top 10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s one of the best QBs in all of college football. Last season, he completed 66% of his passes, throwing for 28 TDs and 0 INTs. He also rushed for 1,100 yds and 14 TDs and led the Bison to an FCS Championship.
Kevin Thomson – Sacramento State
Thomson is a sensational QB who has dominated the past few seasons. He has 6,424 passing yards and 52 TDs, while adding 1,247 rushing yards and 21 TDs on the ground in his career. His accuracy and ability to diagnose plays are impressive.
Daniel Smith – Villanova
Smith has been one of the top QBs in the FCS. In his career, he’s thrown for 6,745 yards and 66 TDs and rushed for 2,397 yards and 37 TDs. He’s a true Dual Threat QB who causes nightmares for Defensive Coordinators.
Eric Barriere – Eastern Washington
Barriere is 463-775 (59.7%) for 6,300 yards and 56 TDs in his career. He’s also an effective runner who has 1,219 rushing yards and 17 TDs in his career.
Zerrick Cooper – Jacksonville State
Cooper, the former Clemson Tiger, had another big season in 2019. He passed for 3,404 yards and 28 Touchdowns, and also rushed for 320 yards and 6 TDs.
Keegan Shoemaker – Lafayette
Shoemaker was the Patriot League Rookie of The Year. In 2019, he rushed for 347 yards and 3 touchdowns and passed for 2,540 yards and 14 touchdowns, while completing 60% of his passes.
Brandon Rainey – Citadel
Rainey is a very effective rusher, running for 1,924 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career. He’s also thrown for 1,282 yards and 15 TDs.
Geremy Hickbottom – Grambling State
Hickbottom has had an outstanding career. He’s thrown for 3,853 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career. In 2019, he threw for 1,804 yards and 12 TDs, and rushed for 668 yards with 6 touchdowns.
Jeremiah Oatsvall – Austin Peay
Oatsvall is a Dual Threat QB. He’s thrown for 3,016 yards and 30 TDs in his career. He’s also rushed for 997 yards and 12 TDs. He was ranked as the 17th best Dual Threat QB in 2017. He was also a basketball recruit. Just off the chart athleticism.
Bailey Zappe – Houston Baptist
Zappe is a gun slinger. He’s thrown for 8,171 yards and 63 TDs in his career. The downside is his 38 INTs. HBU won 5 games in 2019. That’s more than any year in their short seven year history as a FCS Team.
EJ Perry – Brown
Perry has put up some big numbers in his time at Brown. He threw for 2,948 yards and 22 TDs, while rushing for 730 yards and 8 TDs in 2019. He’s a good leader with good vision and good pre-play awareness.
Darren Grainger – Furman
Grainger threw for 1,222 yards and 13 touchdowns last season as a Freshman. He’s a Dual Threat QB who also has 349 rushing yards and 5 TDs in his career. With him back at QB, the Paladins should be considered a favorite in the SOCON.
Reece Udinski – VMI
Udinski is 659-1,096 (60%) in his career with 6,790 Passing yards and 41 TDs. With only 1 rushing TD in his career, it shows how he’s predominately a pocket passer.
Jeff Undercuffler – Albany
Undercuffler has thrown for 4,069 yards and 45 TDs in his career with just 15 INTs. He’s been a solid and steady at QB. However, he could definitely improve on his completion percentage of 55.1% in 2020.
Jack Cook – Dayton
Cook is a Dual Threat who has been efficient in both passing and rushing in his career. He has 53 passing TDs to just 7 INTs. He’s also got 893 rushing yards with 20 TDs.
Joe Mancuso – Richmond
Mancuso led all CAA QBs in rushing yards in 2019 with 647 rushing yards. He threw for 2,128 yards and 13 TDs, but did have 10 INTs. If he cuts down on INTs in 2020, he should have a big season.
Cody Orgeron – McNeese
Cody is the son of LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron. He has quietly become one of the top QBs in the FCS. Orgeron threw for 2,628 yards and 24 touchdowns, while rushing for 482 yards and 3 TDs in 2019. Make sure to watch him play this season.
Jason Brown – St. Francis
Brown is a player I’ve been following and supporting a long time. He was passed up by many teams during his recruitment and has shown how good he is at St. Francis. He’s thrown for 3,084 yards and 28 TDs with just 6 INTs. NFL Scouts believe Brown has a chance to be a NFL pro. They love his size and arm.
Parker McKinney – EKU
McKinney is a player I expect to have a good 2020 season. The Colonels went 7-5 last year and 5-3 in the OVC. McKinney has 11 Pass TDs and 10 INTs in 2 seasons to go along with 346 rushing yards and 6 TDs.
Tim DeMorat – Fordham
Fordham was just 4-8 last season, but they return Tim DeMorat who threw for 2,674 yards and 20 TDs. In his career, he has 4,307 passing yards, 31 TDs, and 6 rushing TDs.
Jalon Jones – Jackson State
The hopes for a good season in 2020 for Jackson St falls on the arm of former Florida Gator Jalon Jones. Last season as a FR he had 882 passing yds and 9 TDs, while rushing for 395 yards and 2 TDs. But he does need to improve on his 48.6 completion %.
Juwan Carter – Norfolk State
Carter has had a productive career for NSU. He’s thrown for 6,760 yards and 49 TDs and rushed for 587 yards and 10 TDs. He does have 28 INTs, so he needs to limit turnovers in 2020. He’s a fun player to watch. Remember the name!
Tommy Bryant – Kennesaw State
Bryant is a Dual Threat QB, but really excels rushing. Last season, he had 16 rushing TDs and 7 passing TDs, leading KSU to 11 wins. With Bryant back at QB, the Owls should be considered the Big South favorites.
Jon Copeland – Incarnate Word
Copeland was the 2018 Southland Freshman of the Year. In 2019, he threw for 3,341 yards and has 6,325 passing yards, 44 TDs, and 6 rushing TDs in his career.
Joe Fagnano – Maine
Fagnano threw for 1,835 yards and 17 TDs last season as a Freshman, while only throwing 3 INTs. He also rushed for 192 yards. Fagnano showed good vision & awareness to be such a young player in 2019.
Connor Degenhardt – Holy Cross
Degenhardt is one of the top returning QBs in the Patriot League. He’s a big QB at 6’6″ who has thrown for 2,372 yards and 14 TDs, and rushed for 5 TDs in his career, too.
Felix Harper – Alcorn State
Harper makes Alcorn State one of the toughest teams in the SWAC. In his career, he’s thrown for 3,141 yards and 35 TDs while rushing for 6 touchdowns. Last season, he was the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year.
J’Bore Gibbs – South Dakota State
Gibbs had 1,058 Passing yards in 2019 with 10 TDs. He also rushed for 4 TDs. Gibbs suffered an injury last season as a Freshman. So if healthy this season, expect a big year.
Aqeel Glass – Alabama A&M
Glass has thrown for 7,213 yards and 57 touchdowns in his career while also rushing for 2 TDs. At 6’5″ 215 lbs the NFL Scouts are intrigued by Glass. A&M has a good chance to win the SWAC in 2020.
Grant Breneman – Colgate
Breneman has thrown 29 touchdowns in his career while rushing for 920 yards and 15 touchdowns. Colgate should be considered a favorite in the Patriot League with his return.
Ladarius Skelton – Southern
Skelton is a Dual Threat QB who passed for 13 touchdowns and rushed for 870 yards and 14 TDs in 2019. With Skelton running the show for Southern, they have to be considered the favorites in the West Division of the SWAC.
Chris Oladokun – Samford
Oladokun is a former transfer from USF. Last season, he threw for 2,058 yards and 18 touchdowns, and he rushed for 491 yards and 8 TDs. He’s a Dual Threat QB who Samford will need to play lights out to have a chance to win the SOCON in 2020.
Mark Pappas – Morehead State
Pappas passed for 2,327 yards and 19 touchdowns last season. With Pappas leading the offense, 2020 could be the year Morehead State has a season finishing above .500 since 2015.
Breylin Smith – Central Arkansas
Smith has thrown for 4,791 yards and 39 touchdowns in his career. He’s also rushed for 3 TDs, but he’s more of a pocket passer than running threat.
Preston Rice – Murray State
Rice had a big season in 2019. He threw for 2,932 yards andt20 Touchdowns and rushed for 366 yards with 2 touchdowns. Murray State only won 4 games in 2019. Rice will look to lead them to 6+ wins in 2020.
Bailey Fisher – Tennessee Tech
Fisher threw for 2,643 passing yards and 21 touchdowns last season, while also rushing for 489 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last season, Fisher was a big reason why Tennessee Tech upset Jacksonville State.
Kory Curtis – Bryant
Curtis is a player I’m expecting a big 2020 season from. Last season, Bryant only won 4 games and Curtis threw for 1,700 yards and 7 touchdowns, adding 2 rushing TDs. Expect his numbers to drastically improve this season.
Kha’darris Davis – Alabama State
Alabama State was 5-6 (4-3) last season. With Davis returning at QB, the Hornets should have a winning season in 2020. In 2019, he threw for 2,097 yards and 21 TDs, adding 2 rushing TDs as well.
Connor Sampson – Western Illinois
Western Illinois was 1-11 (1-7) last season. If they want to improve and not be a pushover in the MVC they’ll need Sampson to take another step in his development. Last season, he threw for 2,092 yards and 13 Touchdowns.
Davius Richard – North Carolina Central
Richard made a name for himself in 2019 as a Freshman. He threw for 2,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 starts. He also rushed for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns. Richard should have a big sophomore season.
Matt Struck – Idaho State
Struck threw for 2,306 yards and 20 touchdowns last season and rushed for 1 TD. Idaho State went 3-9 last season and has the fewest returning starters in the Big Sky in 2020. Struck will be relied on heavily this season.
