The Pypeline Top 25 – Week 7

To quote the late, great Randy Macho Man Savage:

The beat goes on, and the beat goes on, and the beat goes on…

Another week gone by, and another week on top for the defending National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide. College football fans everywhere have to start considering that this may be the greatest Crimson Tide team to ever compete on the gridiron. And considering their history, that’s a crazy statement.

Pypeline Top 25

  1. Alabama (5)
  2. Georgia
  3. Ohio State
  4. Notre Dame
  5. Clemson
  6. West Virginia
  7. Washington
  8. Penn State
  9. Texas
  10. UCF
  11. Michigan
  12. Oklahoma
  13. Florida
  14. Wisconsin
  15. LSU
  16. Miami
  17. NC State
  18. Colorado
  19. Oregon
  20. USF
  21. Kentucky
  22. Auburn
  23. Cincinnati
  24. Iowa
  25. Texas A&M

Many opposing fans will be eager to quickly point out that Alabama has not really played anyone yet. And that is a valid criticism. However, as we’ve pointed out before, QB Tua Tagovailoa is only playing ~ 49% of Bama’s offensive minutes. And they’re still slaughtering teams. In fact, the Tide has only recorded one 500-pt year in team history (2012). They are on pace to shatter that team record. To go further, they are currently on pace to tie the 1944 Army squad’s all-time record of points/game at 56.0.

In other non-Tide news, Texas is back…again…no for real this time…maybe. After a thrilling win in the Red River [Redacted], the Longhorns have climbed back into the Top 10. Fun fact: did you know the Longhorns have defeated 3 ranked teams this year? That’s tied with Notre Dame for most in the country. Take that Maryland hiccup off their resume and they’re legitimately in the #CFP talk.

Go West, my friend

In #Pac12AfterDark action, can we talk about the Pypeline Player of the Week, Colorado WR Laviska Shenault? He’s a guy that generally isn’t mentioned in the Heisman race. But he should be. He’s a one-man wrecking crew for the Buffs. And he’s helped lift Colorado all the way to their #18 ranking. He’s 3rd in the country in receiving yards and 7th in total TDs. Last week vs Arizona St he scored 4 TDs in a 28-21 Buffs victory. Aka, he scored all the points. Aka, he’s good.

This week’s Top 25 match-ups

There are 3 Top 25 match-ups this week. #14 Wisconsin travels to #11 Michigan (-8.5), #7 Washington (-3) travels to #19 Oregon, and #2 Georgia (-7.5) visits #15 LSU. Should be another action packed Saturday. Remember to join us over at The Tailgate at 11 to get you ready for all the day’s action!
