With Week 8 in the books, it’s time to take a look back at the weird and wonderful. The funny and flabbergasting. The amazing but accurate. The strange, but true.
BREAKING: Alabama is good
In case anyone didn’t get it, that was a joke. Because it’s obvious to everyone that Alabama is good. It’s not really breaking news…you know what? Just forget it. On to Alabama being good. The Tide are challenging the ’44 Army squad for the highest point/game total in college football history. The Cadets averaged 56.0 pts/game. Bama is clocking in at 54.1. On top of that, they’re a perfect 8-0 ATS in the 1H this season. Their average HT score is 39-7. So they’ve yet to even be remotely tested.
BREAKING: Tua Tagovailoa is good
That’s another joke because everyone already knows that Tua is…nevermind. Anyhoo, yeah, Tua is good. Here are his stats for the year: 2066 yds, 70.4%, 13.6 y/a, 25 TDs, ZERO ints, & a 238.8 QB rating. He’s on pace to shatter the record for y/a, QB rating, & highest touchdown %. And this is all still without playing in the 4Q yet. He’s careening toward Barry Sanders Heisman territory in that he’s completely dominating and will win the award in a landslide. Everyone else is just playing for 2nd place.
Fun fact: Tua’s full first name is Tuanigamanuolepola. The more you know. *ting sound*
Oklahoma keeps on rolling
The Sooners broke a scoring record on Saturday…they’re own. Oklahoma extended their own record of scoring 28+ points in their 31st straight game. The last time they didn’t score at least 28 points was Sept 17, 2016 against Ohio St, a 45-24 loss. And if it weren’t for Tuanigamanuolepola’s historic season, we’d be talking about Kyler Murray’s historic season (he has the 2nd highest QB rating of all time behind Tagovailoa’s current pace).
94 yards of offense…Not great, Bob!
The Michigan defense curb stomped Michigan St, as the Wolverines dismantled the Spartans. MSU only had 94 (!) yards of offense. Probably not going to win many games that way. This comes just a week after the Wolverines completely shut down Wisconsin and Alex Hornibrook Heismanbrook. We’re a long ways away, but the Michigan defense vs the Alabama offense in the Title game would be must-see tv.
Time to party like FDR just got re-elected!
We’re down one more undefeated team, as Temple took down AAC foe #20 Cincinnati in OT. The Owls used a furious comeback to tie the game late in the 4Q. They then punched it in in OT and gave Temple their first home win vs a Top 20 team since 1936. That means, by our calculation, the next one should come in the year 2100. Go ahead and set your alarms, Owls fans!
