Someone forgot to tell Purdue that they’re not supposed to be this good

Something funny happened on the way to Michigan State dominating the B1G this year: someone forgot to tell Purdue. Led by Isaac Haas’ and Vincent Edwards’ combined 54 points, the Boilermakers got off to their best start ever in conference play (9-0), after their 92-88 victory at home vs Michigan.

After what was their 16th victory in a row, Purdue fans are ready to party like it’s 1901-1904, 1919-1921, and 1987-1988. Those were the last times that the Boilermakers won 16 in a row, a school record. (Note – how about the 1901 team taking THREE YEARS to win 16 in a row? What was there two months off between every game? Insanity.) That gives them a sweep of Michigan for the first time since 2008.

Many assumed that losing last year’s B1G Player of the Year in Caleb Swanigan to the NBA draft might cause the Boilermakers to slip a bit. Most preseason predictions had them finishing second or as low as fourth in the conference. But thanks to Haas and the Flying Edwards Brothers Vincent and Carsen (note: they are not actually brothers), along with G Dakota Mathias, the Boilermakers look poised to make a run at their third Final Four in school history. Boiler up, Hammer down!
