Here are 5 (because we couldn’t think of 6) things to watch for in Saturday’s Spring Games.
Nebraska
Not sure if Husker fans are familiar with their new head coach Scott Frost, yet. This will be a chance for the former coach of the National Champs UCF Knights to introduce himself to the home crowd. We’ll see how they respond to the new guy in town.*
* – this entire paragraph was sarcastic.
Alabama
When we last saw the Tide, they were winning the Championship with their destined QB Tua Tagovailoa. Now, the Hawaiian Lion is out with an injury. That reopens the door for QB Jalen Hurts, who will get a chance to prove himself yet again. Else, according to his dad, he might be hitting the road.
Notre Dame
Back in the day, we used to try and play Madden by signing all of the best defensive players in the league, leaving basically nothing but garbage on offense. Now, we’re not saying that the Fighting Irish offense is a garbage can full of garbage. However, we doubt that they’re going to be confused for the ’58 Sooners either (note- we have no idea if the ’58 Sooners were any good on offense or not. We’re just saying that the Irish probably won’t be confused for them.)
Oregon
The Ducks and new head coach Mario Christobal will take the field for the first time. While fans at the Zoo will be excited to see the new team, there will probably be even more noise and fireworks off the field. Namely, the #1 ranked recruit in the country, 5-star DE Kayvon Thibodeaux will be out for an official visit, too. Not to mention so will the #1 all-purpose RB in the country 4-star Sean Dollars (great name). Throw in 4-star LB Mase Funa, 4-star ATH Jayvaun Wilson, 4-star RB Jaren Mangham, 4-star OL Jason Rodriguez, & 4-star DT Jaquaze Sorrells and that is a lot of talent visiting Autzen. Should be fun for Duck fans.
UCLA
Hey, it’s a Chip Kelly sighting! The last time we saw Kelly on the gridiron, he was doing his best to run the Eagles & 49ers franchises into the ground. Well, now he’s back where he belongs. Most Eagles & 49ers fans would agree that that would be as far away from their stadiums as possible. But we more meant that he’s back in the college game. It’ll be interesting to see what he can do in his first year for the Bruins. Especially, since he won’t have QB Josh Rosen to fall back on.
