Today marks 98 days until college football returns. We will count down the days until then.
Tom Harmon, or “Old 98”, played three seasons for the University of Michigan from 1938-1940. On 399 carries, he rushed for 2,151 yards, while also passing for 1,396 yards and 16 TDs. In all, he tallied 237 points, including leading the nation in scoring in 1939 and 1940, a feat that has never been duplicated. He was a 3-time First Team All-Big Ten player and a 2-time consensus All-American. In 1940, he won the Maxwell Award, Heisman Trophy, and was named the AP Athlete of the Year. In 1954 Harmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
