Today marks 93 days until college football returns. We will count down the days until then.
It took 93 yards for Michigan’s Desmond Howard to make magic. In 1991 in one single play, he returned a punt for a touchdown, slammed the door on rival Ohio St, wrapped up the Heisman, broke the Wolverines’ school record for longest punt return, and put his stamp on one of the most iconic plays in college football history when he struck the Heisman pose in the end zone at the Big House.
To say that year was special for Howard is an understatement. He won the Maxwell Award, Big Ten Player of the Year, Walter Camp Award, UPI Player of the Year, Sporting News Player of the Year, and of course the Heisman trophy. In 2011, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. And that image of him after those 93 yards will stand forever.
PS – How about the iconic Keith Jackson on the call? “…One man…Goodbye! Hello Heisman!”
