There are 65 days until college football returns. Today we look back at when Oklahoma’s Antonio Perkins returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown against UCLA.
You might be asking yourself: why would a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown be notable? Well, it wasn’t Perkins only punt return for a touchdown that day. In fact, it wasn’t even his second punt return for a touchdown that day. Instead, it was his NCAA record THIRD punt return for a touchdown against the Bruins that day. Perkins had touchdown returns of 74 yards, 84 yards, and 65 yards. With that return, not only did he set the record for most punt return touchdowns in a game, but he also broke the record for most punt return yardage in a game with 277. The Sooners would go on to trounce the Bruins 59-24. It was a day for the ages for Antonio Perkins and Oklahoma, and it was a record breaking day that Sooner fans won’t forget.
