The Good The Bad And The Ragin’ Cajuns: Assessing Week 2 of College Football

College football is really back now. No longer having to act excited for Central Arkansas vs. Austin Peay, no disrespect towards those teams but we finally got to see some of the top teams in the sport play. While the SEC has not started, and the Big 12 was all non-conference (and we don’t talk about those other two power 5 conferences that remain nameless), there was still some exciting football being played this past Saturday. So let’s get right into the highs and lows of this weeks action.

The Good

The Sun Belt Conference Shines In Early Season Action

3-0. That is the current record of the Sun Belt versus the Big 12. And while no one was expecting anything from Kansas who were dismatled by Coastal Carolina, wins by Arkansas State versus Kansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette versus is an impressive feat. Shout out to you Sun Belt.

Jonathon Adams Jr. Goes For The Hatrick

In the 35-31 upset versus K-State, it was Adams who led the way for the Red Wolves with 3 TDs, including the game winner with only 38 seconds remaining. He finished with 8 receptions for 98 yards along with the 3 TDs while also making what would’ve been a catch of the season contender if he had stayed in bounds.

FSU Decommit Jeff Sims Comes Back To Stun Seminoles

Irony is fun in sports. Jeff Sims the Georgia Tech freshman QB led the Jackets back from a 10 point second half deficit, after decommitting from FSU very late on in the recruiting process. He threw for 277 and TD and ran for another 64 in his first collegiate start. Tech won 16-13 despite a horrible special teams display in which they missed a 2 FGs and 1 extra point.

Lincoln Riley Makes QBs Look Really Good

I know I know they played Missouri State but when your starting QB threw a TD on almost 25% of his throws it’s still impressive. We’ll see how Rattler progresses through the year.

The Bad

Special Teams Have A Really Tough Day (Albeit exciting)

Shout out the Iowa State kick off and punt coverage team for allowing two TDs to be returned which can’t happen no matter how much practice time you lost. But this next  punt, I can’t even describe. Here just watch.

Also Texas State missed what would have been the game winning extra point after a kick return touchdown to tie the game. They eventually lost in OT.

The Big 12 With The Shaky Start

And for every winner there is a loser. The Sun Belt the winner, the Big 12 the loser. Although blowout wins for Texas and Oklahoma occured, don’t let it take away from the fact that they went 0-3 versus the Sun Belt and Texas Tech barely survived the mighty Houston Baptist.

Florida State Fans Body Art… And Face Coverings… And Actual Football

FSU had a pretty bad week. James Blackman had a bad game. They blew a 10 point lead to the QB who decomitted from them. Literally no one in the stadium wore a mask. And ESPN showed two disturbing images of shirtless FSU fans, one of two grown men in glitter paint.

That about wraps up my brief thoughts and feelings for Week 2, be back next week hopefully discussing what a mess the SEC is going to be (because it will be).
