There are 46 days until college football returns. Today we look back at Marshall QB Rakeem Cato’s NCAA record 46 straight games with a passing touchdown.
In 2011 in a game against the University of Houston, Thundering Herd freshman QB Rakeem Cato attempted only 4 passes in a loss to the Cougars. However, one of those passes was a touchdown. Little did anyone know, that was the beginning of an NCAA record setting performance.
In 2014, as a part of a 4 touchdown performance against Florida International, Cato hit Ryan Yurachek on a 6-yard touchdown to break Russell Wilson’s record of 38 straight games with a passing touchdown. There wouldn’t be another game in Cato’s career in which he didn’t throw a touchdown pass. His final TD pass came in a victory in the Boca Raton Bowl against Northern Illinois. The final tally to his NCAA record was 46 straight games. That is a record that will stand for a long time.
