There are only 40 days left until the start of the 2019 college football season. Today we honor Boston College legend #40 Luke Kuechly. Kuechly was an absolute force for the Eagles, and was impossible to miss when watching BC games during his career. His success came at a good time for Boston College as spirits were not very high in Chestnut Hill. In May of 2009, Mark Herzlich announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer and was going to miss the upcoming season. The man that stepped into his role was none other than Luke Kuechly. Although he was just a freshman, Luke brought hope back to BC.
As a freshman, Kuechly recorded 158 tackles, 1 sack, and an interception. He was the leader in tackles in the ACC and 2nd nationally. In his sophomore and junior seasons, Luke lead the entire nation in tackles with 183 and 191, respectively. His 191 tackles in his junior season were just 2 away from breaking the NCAA record, and that was without any post-season play. Unfortunately, Boston College went 4-8 that year and failed to qualify for a bowl game. In his final 2 seasons he was also voted as a consensus first-team All-American. Needless to say, Luke Kuechly is not a name that Boston College fans are going to forget anytime soon. Check back tomorrow to see what is next on the Countdown to College Football.
