Some big time programs got some big time news, as 4-star S Cortez Andrews released his Top 5. The talented defensive back out of Amos Godby High School in Tallahassee, FL has some of the biggest programs in the country on his list, with an all SEC flavor. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Ole Miss are the five that made the final cut.

Cortez is a ballhawking safety with elite ability at diagnosing the play. He’s the perfect field general to have in the secondary, as his size, strength, and speed allow him to cover any receiver on the field. He is also a run-stopping force that can thrive near the line of scrimmage. Whoever winds up with Andrews will have a stud playmaker on their hands with a nose for the ball.
Jason’s Take
With Cortez being such a prolific, versatile athlete, he will be able to immediately step in and contribute to any program in the country. That includes all of the vaunted SEC schools that made his list. The guy that his teammates nicknamed Mack 10 will be a major player for years to come.
As with almost any player in the nation that has elite talent, Alabama will be a major force in Cortez’s recruitment. However, it won’t be just because they’re always in the mix for the top recruits in the nation. It will also be because Cortez’s father, Carlos Andrews, played for the Tide from 2001-2004. Will that be enough for Alabama to land the talented safety? That remains to be seen. Florida would love to keep him in-state. And you can never count out Georgia and the empire that head coach Kirby Smart is building. Cortez recently visited both the Gators and the Dawgs and really loved both visits. The Rebels are on the rebound and have made Andrews a major target. Ole Miss co-defensive coordinator Jason Jones as well as assistant coach Charles Clark want him flying around the field in Oxford. And Auburn would love nothing more than to snatch an Alabama legacy out from under them.
The Tide is probably in the lead for his services right now. However, there is a lot of time left in his recruitment. One thing is for sure: whoever lands him will get one of the most complete safeties in the country.
