4-star CB John Dixon announces Top 5 Schools

Since the beginning of last year, John Dixon, star cornerback out of Tampa, FL has seen his offer list grow at a consistent rate. Offers have come in from all over the country, but Dixon has narrowed his list of choices to just 5 lucky programs. The schools that made the cut are: Alabama, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami, and South Carolina. Most experts expected Florida to be on that list, but it seems their hat will not be in the ring. Or in this situation, their hat won’t be on the table.

There is a reason that Dixon is one of the most offered d-backs in the nation. When watching Johnny’s game film, it is clear that he has all the pieces. His athleticism and ball skills make him a ballhawk deep in the open field. However, he does a great job in coming up and supporting the defense in the running game. The only downside to others is that he is considered to be slightly small. At just about 6’0″ and 170 lbs, some receivers may be able to go over him. Still, big time programs have seen enough to make room for him in their 2019 class. Also, with Dixon’s friskiness off the line, size will not be a problem.

Mike’s Take

Johnny Dixon could easily be one of the Top 5 underrated players in this class. In fact, I would be shocked if he did not receive a bump in rankings as the summer progresses. Especially after summer camps and various combines leading up to his senior season. Now, which team(s) do we think have the best chance? Well, this race comes down to 2 schools in particular – Miami and Penn State. Miami has been absolutely incredible on the recruiting trail as of late. Especially with in-state talents such as Dixon. All 11 of their commitments in the 2019 class are from Florida, and that is no mistake. They are trying to build a wall around the state.

Penn State has also been on a tear recently. Over the past 2 years they have missed on very few of their targets. Also, Dixon seems to be pretty close with incoming Nittany Lion freshman DB, Jordan Miner. Having a friend to play alongside you in the secondary sounds like too good of an opportunity to pass up. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to find out as Dixon has stated he is “bringing the process to an end soon.” Stay tuned to find out where John Dixon ends up!
