There are only 27 days until the start of college football. To celebrate we honor the incredible career of Buckeye legend, #27 Eddie George. In just his third collegiate game George scored 3 touchdowns in a win over #8 Syracuse. However, Eddie’s career saw somewhat of a setback in game 5 against Illinois. He fumbled the ball twice within the 5 yard line, and one was returned 96 yards for a touchdown. Those 2 fumbles ended up being costly as Ohio State lost that game 18-16. It wasn’t until his Junior year that the Ohio State coaching staff seemed to put their trust back into George.
In George’s Junior season, he ran for 1,442 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 276 carries. As a Senior he had 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns with 328 touches. He also took home the prestigious Heisman trophy after his impressive Senior campaign. Although George may have struggled holding on to the ball as a freshman, his most impressive feat of his career is arguably his ball security. After his 2 fumbles against Illinois he only fumbled the ball 4 more times. That is insane considering he carried the ball over 600 times during his time at Ohio State.
