With Week 11 of college football in the books, it’s time to take a look back at the weird and wonderful. The funny and flabbergasting. The amazing but accurate. The strange, but true.
Alabama, Michigan, Clemson, Oklahoma, & UAB…
…One of these teams doesn’t belong. The answer, of course, is Oklahoma. Lolwut? Yes, the other four teams are the only four teams in the country that are 7-0 in conference play. Are we saying that UAB plays the same level of competition as Alabama and Michigan? Nooooo. But merely two years ago, UAB didn’t even have a team at all. So the blueprint is there to go from literally not having a football team to two years later being undefeated in conference play. So take heart, Louisville fans!
A FG and we’re good
Top-ranked Alabama defeated #16 Mississippi St 24-0. But that’s not the Strange, but true part. The week before they defeated #3 LSU 29-0. But that’s not the Strange, but true part either. However, in their storied history, this is the first time ever that the Tide pitched back-to-back shutouts against Top 25 teams. And considering that Alabama is generally pretty good on defense, and they are frequently facing overrated appropriately rated SEC teams, that is indeed Strange, but true.
Pop the champaign, we’re mediocre!
The Northwestern Wildcats hard fought 14-10 victory over #21 Iowa secured them a spot in the B1G Championship game. For the first time in school history, Northwestern will be the B1G West division representative in the B1G title game. They’ll face the winner of the Michigan/Ohio St game. And by doing so, the 6-4 Wildcats became the first ever Championship game participant from any conference to lose all of their out of conference games and still make their conference title game. So, congrats?

Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa is having the 2nd greatest season for a quarterback in the history of college football. His 207.7 is the 2nd highest Passing Efficiency Rating in history. He’s also posting the 2nd highest Passing Yards Per Attempt and Adjusted Passing Yards Per Attempt in history at 11.7 and 13.9, respectively. All of those numbers are 2nd to the QB with the greatest season in college football history, Sooners QB Kyler Murray. Murray’s Passing Efficiency Rating is a record shattering 212.9. His 12.3 Passing Y/A and 14 Adjusted Passing Y/A would both set all time highs in college football. His completion % would also qualify as the 30th highest of all time. Not bad for an outfielder.

Remember when the sky was falling in Husker land?
Nebraska’s year got off to a rough start. A really rough start. A really, really rough start. Like an 0-6 rough start. However, things have started to turn around. They’ve won 3 out of their last 4 games, with their only blemish being a 5-point loss at Ohio St. True freshman QB Adrian Martinez has all the makings of a superstar. And with the storied history of Husker football, the fact that they’ve broken a school record for offense over the last 7 games speaks volumes to the path that head coach Scott Frost has this team on. A down year, but a record setting offense. Strange, but true.
PS – If you’re a Nebraska fan and you’re not already following former All-American and Husker HOF Adam Carriker, you really need to question every life decision you’ve ever made. He’s a MUST follow for all fans of the Sea of Red. #ThrowTheBones
