A Rising Star
One of the fastest rising QB’s in the 2019 class, Garrett Shrader, announced his commitment to Mississippi State. Shrader is currently ranked as a 3-star quarterback, but his offer list shows that he might get a bump in the rankings. The North Carolina native chose the Bulldogs over offers from Alabama, Florida, Penn State, & Nebraska among others. When you watch Shrader’s game film, it becomes quite clear that Mississippi State has found a diamond in the rough.
Although the competition that Shrader is facing at Charlotte Christian may not be up to par, he is still tearing apart the defensive backfields that are put in front of him. Garrett is able to make all of the throws that are asked of him. Whether it is cross-field or a short route, the ball is usually put right on the money.
Not only does Shrader have the arm that any college coach would love for their QB to have, he is also quite the athlete. Garrett has been timed at a 4.6 40 time, which is incredible for a QB, especially at the high school level. Most dual threat QB’s tend to run the ball too often in high school. This does not seem to be a problem for Shrader. He stands in the pocket looking for the open man. Only once he has gone through his progressions, does he take off.
Bulldogs strong start gets stronger
With the addition of Shrader, the Bulldogs have started to put together a great 2019 recruiting class. Although it is early, they currently stand at the #22 spot in the nation. MSU also has a commitment from homegrown top 100 DE Charles Moore. If MSU continues to add talent like Moore and Shrader, the Bulldogs will be a team to watch in the SEC for years to come.
