It’s time for Conference Championship Week in college football. And it’s time for predictions. Lots of good football and interesting match-ups. Be sure to check out the ATS picks at the end.
Championship Game Predictions
AAC Championship
(9) Cincinnati 27 (23) Tulsa 14 – This game features two really good defenses and I expect it to be low scoring. The Bearcats overall have a better team and QB, so expect them to win.
ACC Championship
(3) Clemson 31 (2) Notre Dame 24 – The Irish come into this game as 10.5 point underdogs. Last time these two met, the game was in South Bend and Trevor Lawrence, Tyler Davis, and James Skalski were all out. I expect Clemson to win, but the Irish will cover. Both teams make the College Football Playoff.
Big 12 Championship
(10) Oklahoma 31 (6) Iowa State 28 – The Sooners have been on a roll since a terrible start. They will continue rolling and win the Big 12 championship game, but the Cyclones will put up a fight.
Big Ten Championship
(4) Ohio State 38 (14) Northwestern 17 – Northwestern has had an excellent season and they have a defense that can make some big plays. However, the Buckeyes have too much firepower on offense. This game could be close at the beginning, but Ohio State will pull away in the second half.
C-USA Championship
Marshall 20 UAB 17 – This game will be low scoring, because both defenses are really good. Marshall has been a better team all year and I’ll go with them in a close one.
MAC Championship
Buffalo 38 Ball State 27 – If Ball State wants to have a chance to win this game, they’ll have to somehow find a way to slow down the Bulls’ rushing attack with Jaret Patterson and Kevin Marks. Ball State will also need QB Drew Plitt to have a big day.
Mountain West Championship
Boise State 31 (24) San Jose State 21 – San Jose State is having a tremendous season but Boise State and Hank Bachmeier are here to ruin it.
Pac 12 Championship
Oregon 31 (13) USC 27 – I’m going with the Ducks in an upset here. USC had to prepare for two teams, Oregon and Washington, (thanks Pac 12), while Oregon has only been preparing for USC.
SEC Championship
(1) Alabama 45 (7) Florida 31 – Most people believe the Gators will get blown out in this game. However, I don’t. The Gators will keep it close. Kyle Trask will have to have an unbelievable and perfect game if the Gators want any chance to win this outright.
Sun Belt Championship
This game has been canceled due to covid issues. Here was my prediction:
(12) Coastal Carolina 31 (19) ULL 28 – The Chanticleers defeated the Ragin Cajuns 30-27 earlier in the season. It’s hard to defeat a team twice in a season, but there’s no way I can pick against the Chanticleers.
