College Football Week 5 Predictions

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It’s time for Week 5 in college football. And it’s time for predictions. Lots of good football and interesting match-ups. Be sure to check out the ATS picks at the end.

Top 25

SMU 42 (25) Memphis 38

This will be one of the best games of the week, I expect a close, high scoring game.

(24) Pittsburgh 28 NC State 14

Pitt has looked excellent on Defense and NC State got shredded by a Virginia Tech team with 23 players out, give me the Panthers by two TDs.

(22) BYU 38 Louisiana Tech 17
(21) Tennessee 27 Missouri 17
(20) LSU 28 Vanderbilt 10

I’m interested to see if LSU can bounce back and if the Commodores can be competitive like last week.

(18) Oklahoma 35 Iowa State 31

This game won’t be an easy one for the Sooners, it would be crazy if they started out 0-2 but if they don’t take the Cyclones seriously that could certainly happen.

(17) Oklahoma State 35 Kansas 21
(16) Mississippi State 38 Arkansas 21

Mississippi State was EXCITING to watch last week and Arkansas gave Georgia a tough time in the first half.

(15) Cincinnati 34 USF 13

Cincy impressed me vs Army last week and the Defense is legit, cincy wins big in this one.

(12) UNC 34 Boston College 17

Boston College struggled vs Texas State last week only winning by 3. They’ll have to play spotless if they want to pull off an upset in this one.

(11) UCF 45 Tulsa 21

UCF is looking for REVENGE, Golden Knights win big.

(9) Texas 34 TCU 31

The Longhorns lost last season to the Horned Frogs and Gary Patterson will have his team ready to play, Longhorns in a close one.

(4) Georgia 21 (7) Auburn 17

The Deciding factor for me in this game is the Dawgs Defense. They’ll be the best unit on the field and I expect them to force some Bo Nix turnovers.

(3) Florida 35 South Carolina 17

The Gamecocks will be without Linebacker Sherrod Greene and Kyle Trask / Kyle Pitts will be too much to contain.

(2) Alabama 31 (13) Texas A&M 10

The Aggies struggled vs the Vanderbilt Defense, they’ll stuggle even more vs the Crimson Tide Defense.

(1) Clemson 38 Virginia 17

The Hoos have playmakers on Defense who can create problems like Charles Snowden & Joey Blount but the Tigers have too much firepower to be stopped.

Best Unranked Games

West Virginia 27 Baylor 21

I’m going with the Mountaineers in the upset, I’m still not exactly sure how good Baylor is and this will be their first real test under Dave Aranda.

Virginia Tech 38 Duke 24

Duke has a good D-Line so the VT O-Line vs Duke D-Line matchup will be fun to watch. The Hokies are expected to be without a few starters again and Defensive Coordinator Justin Hamilton.

Texas Tech 34 Kansas State 31

This game has a chance to be one of the most competitive games of the week.

Coastal Carolina 31 Arkansas State 28

This game has big implications in the Sun Belt. The winner will be in position to challenge Louisiana & Appalachian State.

Kentucky 31 Ole Miss 27

Whoever loses this game drops to 0-2. Kentucky is the better team in my opinion but Lane Kiffin and that Ole Miss Offense can cause some issues.
