Baylor head coach Matt Rhule is turning things around quickly. And that turn around got even faster when 4-star QB Jacob Zeno committed to the Bears. The 6’3″ 188 lb product out of John Jay High School in Texas decided that playing in his home state was an opportunity too good to pass up, despite having offers from all over the country. Jacob had over 25+ offers, including SEC offers from the likes of Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Florida, ACC offers from the likes of NC State and Syracuse, Pac-12 offers from Arizona and Utah, B1G offers from Minnesota and Indiana, & another Big 12 offer from rival Texas Tech. However, in the end, Baylor was the right fit for him.

Head coach Matt Rhule has been killing on the recruiting trail as of late. Getting the Lone Star State native Zeno was a coup for coach Rhule, as Jacob was the Bears’ #1 target at QB. Zeno is one of the best QB recruits out of the state of Texas. In fact, he will compete in the Nike Elite 11 Finals this summer. Now the Bears have their centerpiece that they can build around for the future.
Jason’s Take
Snagging Jacob Zeno was huge for the Bears, as he has all the tools to be a prolific passer in the Big 12. He has a strong arm that gives him both the strength and accuracy to make the tight window throws. His escability and athleticism will serve him well to buy time for his receivers at the next level. Zeno diagnoses defenses quickly and always seems to make the right decision with the ball. Taking care of the ball is something head coach Matt Rhule values greatly, and Jacob does just that. He will need to work on his footwork in the pocket, specifically when driving the ball down the field. Right now, his big arm affords him a larger margin of error. That margin will shrink drastically when he plays on Saturdays. However, with his strength and athleticism, that will be something that’s easily correctable. Command of the huddle, leadership, and intangibles are things you can’t teach. Luckily, Zeno already has those mastered.
All in all, Baylor fans should be through the roof over this commitment. It is a must to have great QB play in the Big 12 to be successful. With the commitment of Jacob Zeno, the Bears have set themselves up to quickly return the upper echelon of the Big 12. It’s a great time to be a Baylor Bears fan. #SicEm
