The countdown continues! There are only 71 days until the start of the college football season. To celebrate we pay tribute to one of the most dominant teams of all time, the ’71 Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Cornhuskers beat #2 Alabama in the Orange bowl that year by a score of 38-6.
It must have been a great year to be a Nebraska fan! 1971 was just a year long party in Lincoln. Not only did Nebraska go undefeated that year, they also beat 12 of their 13 opponents by 24 points or more. Additionally, 3 of those 12 opponents were ranked in the Top 4 of the final AP Poll. Their closest game of the year was at #2 Oklahoma with a final score of 35-31. That happened to be the only nail-biter for the Cornhuskers that year as they pummeled their opponents by a combined score of 507 – 104. Not sure we will ever see that kind of dominance ever again.
