There are 64 days until college football returns. Today we’ll look back Colorado’s Kordell Stewart’s 64-yard Hail Mary in the Miracle in Michigan.
Down 26-21 with :06 left against #2 Michigan in the Big House in 1994, things looked bleak for Colorado. And having the ball 64 yards from the end zone meant it was going to take a miracle from Buffs QB Kordell Stewart. And that’s just what he gave them. Scrambling around, Stewart aired it out. The ball traveled 73 yards and fell into the arms of Michael Westbrook. It is one of the most iconic plays in college football history.
Ironically, Colorado had run the exact same play before halftime and it resulted in an interception. But the second time around the prayer was answered. Colorado finished with an 11-1 record that year. That included a 41-24 Fiesta Bowl victory over Notre Dame and a #3 final ranking in the polls. And it would not have been possible without the Miracle in Michigan.
