There are 36 days until college football returns. Today we look back at when ECU QB Dominique Davis set an NCAA record of 36 straight completions.
When ECU took on Memphis in 2011, they came into the game having lost 2 in a row. They needed a spark. Enter QB Dominique Davis. He provided a spark and then some. Davis threw for 307 yds, 3 TDs, and no interceptions. He also added 25 yds on the ground and a rushing touchdown. It was a great all around performance, and it lifted the Pirates to a 35-17 victory. Overshadowed in the performance was the fact that Davis finished the game completing his last 10 passes.
The next game vs Navy, Davis remained white hot. He completed his 26 passes to start the game (an NCAA record for most consecutive completions in a single game). Those 26 passes plus the 10 from the previous Memphis game gave him an NCAA record 36 straight completions. It’s a record that still stands to this day. And the Pirates needed every one of them, as they barely hung on to beat Navy 38-35. Davis finished 40-45 for 372 yds and 2 TDs to go along with two NCAA records. Not a bad day at the office!
