Who is the next Carson Wentz, Jimmy Garopollo, or Joe Flacco? They could very well be on this list. We spotlight FCS QBs that you need to know, and that could very well eventually find their way onto an NFL roster.
Jake Maier – UC Davis
Maier is the reigning Big Sky Offensive Player of the year & possibly the best QB in the FCS. He’s thrown for 7,600 yards & 60 TDs the last two years. He’s accurate and has excellent vision. Remember the Name! He is a future 2020 NFL Draft Prospect.
Tyrie Adams – Western Carolina
Adams is a dual threat QB who can shred you passing with his accuracy or with his excellent vision running. In 3 seasons, he’s got 7,279 Passing yards 53 TDs and 13 rushing TDs. He gets to play Alabama & NC State in 2019. Those are great opportunities to showcase his skills on a big stage.
Zerrick Cooper – Jacksonville State
Cooper, an ALL-OVC QB, threw for 3,416 yards and 32 TDs last season. He’s a Clemson transfer. So you know the talent is there, and he showed it last year by finishing 4th in the FCS in passing yards & tied for third in TD passes. Expect 2019 to be another big season from him.
Eric Barriere – Eastern Washington
After taking over for an injured Gage Gubrud, Barriere threw for 2,450 yards & 24 touchdowns. He rushed for 613 yards and 8 TDs, as well. EWU should be considered a favorite in the Big Sky. Expect another big year from Barriere. If you get a chance this season you have to watch this man play.
Case Cookus – Northern Arizona
Cookus has thrown for 7,962 yards & 74 TDs in his career. In 2015, he set an FCS freshman record with 37 TD passes. He’s got the accuracy and arm strength to have an impact at the next level.
Caylin Newton – Howard
Before you ask, yes, he’s the younger brother of Cam Newton. Last season he threw 22 TD passes and had 3,133 yards of total offense. He’s a dual threat QB who can escape pressure for a big run, or make a pass outside of the pocket for a big gain. If he can cut down on turnovers, he will have a big season in 2019.
Chase Fourcade – Nicholls
Fourcade is the program’s career passing leader with 7,728 passing yards 53 TDs. He also has 1,262 rushing yards 23 TDs. He will get to showcase his skills vs Big 12 opponent Kansas State to open the season. Simply because of Fourcade, this is a game where you could see a big upset.
Ryan Boyle – Indiana State
Last season Boyle threw for 1,627 yards 12 TDs in 10 games, while adding added 610 rushing yards for 6 touchdowns. Boyle has some top receivers to get the ball to in 2019. He will be big time this year.
Noah Johnson – Alcorn State
Johnson is one of the top dual threat QBs in the FCS. Last season, he passed for 2,207 yards 15 TDs & rushed for 1,080 yards 11 touchdowns. He’s an electrifying player who I recommend you watch this season.
Tom Flacco – Towson
Last season Flacco, the younger brother of Joe Flacco, had 3,251 passing yards and 742 rushing yards and was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Year. Unlike his brother, Tom is mobile & a threat on the ground. Remember the name. Another big season is coming for Flacco and Towson.
Kenji Bahar – Monmouth
The Hawks have one of the best QBs in the FCS. Bahar has thrown 40 touchdowns, rushed for 7 TDs and completed 60.5% of his passes in his career. He will cap off his senior season with 25+ TDs.
Reece Udinski – VMI
Udinski threw for 3,082 yards 20 Touchdowns last season, while adding one touchdown on the ground.. Udinski is a gun slinger. He has a good arm and a little bit of “Favre” tendencies. I say that b/c he also threw 16 INTs. Expect a big year from him in 2019, if he can cut down on the turnovers.
Austin Simmons – South Dakota
Simmons threw for 3,124 yards 18 touchdowns last season and rushed for five touchdowns. He completed 61.2% of his passes & showed good pocket awareness. If you get the opportunity watch him play this season.
Jalen Morton – PVAMU
Morton is one of the best dual threat QBs in the FCS. A great athlete, Morton ran for 874 yards & 10 touchdowns last season, while passing for 2,344 yards 18 touchdowns. He gets to showcase his skills vs Houston in Week 2.
Nick Tiano – Chattanooga
Tiano, the former Mississippi State Bulldog, threw for 2,710 passing yards 15 touchdowns last season. He also added 239 rushing yards and one TD on the ground. Tiano gets to test his skill vs the Tennessee Vols on September 14th.
Jeremiah Oatsvall – Austin Peay
Oatsvall threw for 1,631 yards & 20 Touchdowns last season. He has 2,779 passing yards the last two seasons. He’s a dual threat QB who also rushed for 517 yards and 6 TDs last season.
Bailey Fisher – Tennessee Tech
Last season as a freshman, Fisher had a big season and was Newcomer of the Year in the OVC. He threw for 1,661, yards and 11 TDs, and he also rushed for 346 yards and 2 TDs. Fisher hasn’t even fully tapped into his full potential. When he does, he will be regarded as one of the top QBs in the FCS.
Chason Virgil – SE Louisiana
Virgil, the former Fresno State Bulldog, threw for 3,034 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. He also rushed for one TD. If Virgil can cut down on the INTs, expect him to Top 22+ total touchdowns this season.
Joe Newman – Wofford
Newman is a dual threat QB who rushed for 539 yards & 5 Touchdowns last season. He also threw for 1,070 yards and 8 TDs. 2019 will be a big year for Newman!
Dresser Winn – UT Martin
Winn threw for 1,601 yards 12 touchdowns last season and rushed for 3 touchdowns. Winn has good accuracy and vision in the pocket. 2019 could be his big season.
Davis Cheek – Elon
Cheek threw for 2,431 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2017. Last season, he only played in 6 games and threw for 1,018 yards. If Elon expects to have a big season in 2019, they’ll need a great amount of production from Cheek.
Brandon Rainey – Citadel
Rainey is a player who could have a breakout season in 2019. Last year, he rushed for 529 yards 5 touchdowns and threw for two scores. He’s a dual threat QB who has a bright future.
Jon Copeland – Incarnate Word
Copeland had an outstanding freshman season in 2018. He threw for 2,984 yards 22 touchdowns and rushed for 2 scores. However, he was sacked 26 times. So if his O-Line can protect him better, you can expect a huge season in 2019.
Jacob Knipp – Northern Colorado
Knipp has suffered with injuries his whole career. In a small sample size when healthy, he’s been excellent, throwing 28 touchdowns and completing 61.4% of his passes. If he’s healthy this season, expect a big year from Knipp.
Trey Lance -NDSU
Lance is the future of Bison Football. The redshirt freshman was the highest ranked QB recruit the Bison have ever landed. He’s got huge expectations, and his skill set is quite impressive. He’s a dual threat QB, who will excel in both phases of the game.
Ben Dinucci – JMU
Dinucci, the former Pitt QB, had a big season in 2018 for JMU. He threw for 2,275 yards and 16 TDs, and rushed for 433 yards and 9 scores. Dinucci completed 68.3% of his passes, but also threw 12 INTs. He will throw for 20+ TDs in 2019.
