There are 19 days until college football returns. Today we remember one of the most electric players in college football history- SMU RB #19 Eric Dickerson.
Eric Dickerson played for SMU from 1979-1982. After originally committing to Texas A&M, Dickerson had a change of heart and committed to play for the Mustangs. With every passing year, he got better and better. By his senior year, Dickerson established himself as one of the best running backs in the country. Even while splitting time with his Pony Express counterpart Craig James, his senior year was outstanding. Dickerson rushed for 1617 yards, 17 touchdowns, while averaging 7.0 ypc. That year he was a first team All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist.
For his career, Eric finished with 4450 yards and 48 total touchdowns. He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the 2nd overall pick in the 1983 draft.
