There are 17 days until college football returns. Today we remember one of the best quarterbacks in Florida State history, #17 Charlie Ward.
Charlie Ward played for the Seminoles from 1989-1993. He was one of the greatest and most decorated in Florida State history. In 1993, he led the Seminoles to their first National Championship ever. On top of that, he won enough individual trophies to fill a small house. He won the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp Award, the Johnny Unitas Award, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Sullivan Award, the Chic Harley Award, the ACC Player of the Year, the Sporting News Player of the Year, and the coveted Heisman Trophy.
1n 1994, the NBA came calling. As a result, Charlie was drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. So he became the only Heisman winner ever to be drafted into the NBA. It was such a testament to his athleticism. Additionally, the Seminoles retired his #17. Ward is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
