The Top 25 in 25 – 02/26/18

Catching up with the weekend’s Top 25 college basketball action in 25 sentences.

#1 Virginia 66 Pittsburgh 37 – We’re still not totally sure that the Panthers knew the game had started yet, as they shot 1(!!)-22 from the field in the 1st half for a FG% of 4.5%, while scoring 7(!!!) points, as they fall to 0-17 in the ACC. #Fail2Pitt

#2 Michigan St 68 Wisconsin 63 – Sparty won the B1G outright for the first time since 2009, as Cassius Winston’s 20 pts, 6 rips, & 5 dimes helped Michigan St fight off a scrappy Wiscy team.

Creighton 89 #3 Villanova 83 OT – Mikal Bridges with an incredible block for the Wildcats to send it to OT…where they promptly lose.

#4 Xavier – DNP

#5 Duke 60 Syracuse 44 – Marvin Bagley (19 pts) returned, which is good news for Blue Devil fans and good news for opponents that enjoy getting dunked on.#8 Kansas 74 #6 Texas Tech – The Jayhawks set the NCAA record by winning their 14th conference title in a row, as Bill Self has still never been swept in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders never trailed in their first game vs Kansas, and were nice enough to return the favor for the Jayhawks…what gentlemen!

#6 Gonzaga 79 BYU 65 – It will be overshadowed by Kansas’ 14 titles in a row, but the Zags have now won the WCC 17 out of the last 18 years.

#9 Purdue 84 Minnesota 60 – It was the final home games for seniors P.J. Thompson, Dakota Mathias, Vincent Edwards, and Isaac Haas, and they went out in Boilermaker style. #BoilerUp #HammerDown

 

#10 North Carolina – DNP

#11 Cincinnati 82 Tulsa 74 – Down 3 at halftime, the Bearcats turned on the jets in the 2nd half, going on a 24-4 run to stay a game ahead of Wichita State in the American conference.

Florida 72 #12 Auburn 66  – The Gators’ KeVaughn Allen dropped 24 pts right in the Tigers’ grill, all while Florida students chanted “F-B-I” and threw money at the Auburn players…ouch, oof, owie!

#13 Wichita St 84 SMU 78 – Led by Shaquille Morris (21 pts, 10 rips), the Shockers got revenge on SMU for a loss earlier this year, and are set up for a winner takes all game versus Cincinnati next weekend.

Oregon 98 #14 Arizona 93 OT Live look at Wildcat fans…

#15 Clemson 75 Georgia Tech 67 – Gabe DeVoe has scored a career high twice this year…both versus Georgia Tech…both in big comeback victories.

#16 Ohio St 80 Indiana 78 2OT – Send ’em home unhappy, CJ!

#17 Michigan 85 Maryland 61 – To say that the Michigan/Maryland game was over at halftime is an understatement, as the Wolverines’ win probability was 99.8%. o_O

#18 Rhode Island 81 Dayton 56 – Congrats to the Rams, who clinched the A10 title outright for the first time!

#19 Tennessee 73 Ole Miss 65 – Led by Admiral Schofield’s (great name) 25 pts, the Vols kept the pressure on Auburn, as they remained a game behind the Tigers in the SEC standings.#20 Nevada 92 Colorado St 83 –  A top 15 team in Adjusted Offense, the Wolfpack could be a sneaky team that could do some damage come March.

#21 West Virginia 85 Iowa St 70 – A demolition on the boards (47-27), including a 16-6 edge on the offensive glass, led to an easy Mountaineer victory over the Cyclones.

#22 Saint Mary’s 67 Santa Clara 40 – The Gaels missed out on a chance to dethrone Gonzaga in the WCC, but have seemingly righted their ship after losing two in a row by winning three in a row to close their regular season.

#23 Houston 109 ECU 58 – If you had the Pirates and (+48.5) in the 1st half, you lost, as the Cougars were up 62-13 at halftime…and it didn’t get any better in the 2nd.

#24 Middle Tennessee 79 UAB 54 – The Blazers cut the deficit to 1, when they made it 7-6, and never got any closer, as MTSU won their first game as a ranked team in their history by 25…so close UAB!

NC State 92 #25 Florida St 72 – The Seminoles did not make a FG outside of the paint, as they go 0-15 from 3, and all FGs were either layups or dunks…might want to work on that.
