Strange, but true – College football’s Week 7

With Week 7 in the books, it’s time to take a look back at the weird and wonderful. The funny and flabbergasting. The amazing but accurate. The strange, but true.

Alabama Punter Sklyer DeLong…allegedly
Recruits: don’t go to Alabama if you want to practice punting

THIS JUST IN: Alabama is good! On the verge of being historically good. And as a result, they tend to not punt. In fact, their punter Skyler DeLong, if that’s his real name, has only punted 16 times all year. He did not punt at all in two of their games. But more than just the 16 punts, DeLong has only punted 6 times in the first half, when the games are still “up for grabs.” (The average halftime score is 45-7 Tide. So we use that term “up for grabs” very loosely.) Thus, 10 of the 16 punts have been in a run-out-the-clock situation. So we’re going to need to see some ID, and possibly fingerprints, to ensure Skyler is he is who he says he is. Because we haven’t actually seen him enough to be certain.

What do Virginia, Pittsburgh, & Kentucky all have in common?

They all control their own destinies to win their conferences. #JustLikeWeAllPredicted

Trivia: Which conference has the most undefeated teams left?

There are 8 undefeated teams left. The conference that has the most is, of course, the AAC. Wait, what? That’s right, the American Athletic Conference has not one, not two, but THREE undefeated teams left. Cincinnati, UCF, and USF. So if you answered the AAC, come on down to collect your cash prize complimentary internet points.

Speaking of conferences…

That GW play by Oregon in OT vs Washington means that the PAC 12 is the only conference in the country that doesn’t have one single team that is undefeated in conference play. Every team has at least one conference loss. Strange, but true.

Let’s talk quarterbacks, shall we?

Penn St’s Trace McSorley was undefeated (17-0) at Happy Valley…until two games ago. Now, he’s lost two in a row. He’s obviously peaked. Guess he’ll just have to settle being the Big Man on Campus, with a hot girlfriend, leading a top tier college football team, with millions of adoring fans. Thoughts and prayers.

Rutgers QB play….yeahhhhhh

Raise your hand if you are NOT a big time Scarlet Knights football fan (entire country save 17 people raises their hands). Well, their QB is Artur Sitkowski. He leads the country in interceptions with 15. That’s almost double the players tied for 2nd (8). Here is his stat line against Maryland: 2-16, 8 yds, 0 TD, 4 ints. That equates to a QB rating of -33.3. That’s… *check abacus* …not good.

Alex Hornibrook is REALLY going to have to pick up the pace to win the Heisman.
Hesimanbrook

The score of Michigan’s 38-13 curb stomping of Wisconsin does not do the game justice. It was a total thrashing. Part of that was due to Badgers QB Alex Hornibrook’s bad play. With less that 5 minutes to play in the 4th quarter, Heismanbrook had 25(!!!!) yards passing. (A garbage drive at the end of the game got his total up to 100 yards.) It’s not like Wisconsin runs the triple option, for heaven’s sake. He just could not make completions. We’re not math wizards, but having 25 yards passing as a non-triple option team, probably won’t lead to many victories. Just a thought.
