Oregon State QB Marcus McMaryion to transfer

Oregon State quarterback Marcus McMaryion has told the Beavers screw you guys, I’m going home that he intends to transfer. McMaryion said in a release:

I want to thank the fans of Beaver Nation, the coaching and academic staff, and my teammates for a great three years. As I close this chapter of my life as a graduate, the next chapter awaits. It has been a privilege representing this program on and off the field. For my OSU brothers on the field, remain 11 strong and have a great season.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, considering that after being a backup last year, McMaryion stepped in for injured quarterbacks Darrell Garrettson and Conor Blount, starting the final six games of the season. During those six games, he performed well, passing for 1,286 yards and 10 touchdowns versus only 5 interceptions. Those six games also included victories in the Beavers final two games against Arizona and, of course, the Civil War versus rival Oregon.

The news comes just a week after the Beavers named juco transfer and former Idaho Vandal quarterback Jake Luton (side note – back in the day, when we used to play NCAA Football (RIP) on Xbox, we played with Idaho in dynasty mode. We turned the Vandals into a national powerhouse. The Kibbie Dome 4 lyfe!). Luton was the starter at Idaho, before going to junior college, before then transferring to Oregon State, where he is now the starter.

No word yet on where McMaryion will transfer. After graduating two(!) years early, he still has two years of eligibility left. And since he’s already graduated, he can play immediately without having to sit out a year. It will be interesting to see where he lands.

Beavers head coach, Gary Anderson, made the decision early on in the quarterback competition in order to give Luton and the rest of the offense time to gel and build as much chemistry as possible. The Beavers open the year on August 26th versus Colorado State.
