Iowa State Lands 4-Star DE Blake Peterson

Iowa State received some great news this week as 4-star defensive end, Blake Peterson, decided to pull the trigger in their favor. Peterson is the top player in the state of North Dakota for the 2019 class. He is also one of the best at the weak-side defensive end position. Peterson announced his commitment during his visit this past weekend to Ames, making the ISU couching staff very happy. The talented big man chose the Cyclones, as he has started to gain interest from schools such as Michigan State and Wisconsin. He is in the thick of B1G country and more schools from that area will definitely come calling.

Standing at 6’4″ and 240 pounds, Peterson already looks the part of a defender that dominates the trenches. His frame will allow him to add on some weight without sacrificing any of his agility/speed. This will be much needed in order to help him stop the running game of teams like Oklahoma, Texas, and other Big 12 schools. Peterson also has a motor that just does not stop. He always finds himself around the ball and never takes plays off.

The Iowa State Cyclones find themselves in unfamiliar with this commitment as it brings them up to the #15 class in the nation so far. What makes this territory so unfamiliar? The last four recruiting classes Iowa State has finished 54 (2018), 52 (2017), 55 (2016), and 64 (2015) in the nation. In fact, the last time that the Cyclones were just in the top 50 was 2006. That year Iowa State still finished #8 in the Big-12. If the commitment of Peterson is a sign of things to come that would be great news for the Cyclones. It could mean that the tides are turning in regards to Iowa State recruiting.
