Four-star S DeMarcco Hellams commits to Tide

The Champs continue to reload with impact safety

Four-star S DeMarcco Hellams commits to Alabama, as the beat goes on for the champs, as they continue to reload. Out of DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, MD, Hellams’ commitment gives the Tide thirteen 4-stars in the 2019 class to go along with one 5-star & one 3-star, as they remain the top ranked class in the country.

Hellams is rock solid, coming in at 6’1″ 201 lbs. He is the 4th ranked safety in the nation, the 2nd ranked overall recruit in Maryland, and a Top 100 recruit overall. He had offers from almost every top school in the country. However, in the end, it was impossible to ignore the Tide. Alabama has the longest reach in recruiting of any school, and this was no different. DeMarcco is a big, physical safety, who is great in pass coverage, but not afraid to come up and lay the lumber in run support. It’s yet another great pick up by the Champs.

Jason’s Take

Many predictions had DeMarcco heading to Alabama’s opponent in the College Football Playoff the last few years: the Clemson Tigers. And with as hot as Clemson had been on the recruiting trail lately, it was easy to see why that was a common prediction. However, in the end, the tradition, the success, and the legacy of playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide won out. Playing under the tutelage of defensive guru Nick Saban was an opportunity that Hellams couldn’t pass up.

Alabama currently has 5 former Tide safeties playing in the NFL. That is an incredibly high number. However, it goes to show you that with Coach Saban’s guidance and attention to detail, the sky is the limit for DeMarcco. Hellams never shies away from run support, which is a must for any Alabama DB under Saban. He is also a ball-hawking safety with good footwork and good hip action, rarely getting turned in the wrong direction by any receiver. And if he does pick the ball off, with his athleticism, he can take  it to the house.

Alabama does it again on the recruiting trail. This is another one of those perfect times where the recruit matched the school perfectly. For Tide fans, the beat goes on, as they continue to get the cream of the crop.
